This is so random. Just messing around on google earth. Maybe it’s just me, but when I turn the globe upside down, it gives more of a perspective of just how far east Memphis is compared to the majority of the Western Conference and how much more sense it would be for us to be in the East, geographically speaking.

  1. After staying up late to watch those Lakers and Warriors games, I could go for 6PM tip-offs and easy wins against the Wizards instead.

  2. Memphis isn’t close to any Eastern conference cities.

Memphis is closer to more western conference teams —*NOLA, Dallas, SanAntonio, Houston, OKC*— than Minnesota is. Minnesota should be in the eastern conference given their proximity to Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit and Cleveland and Toronto (*only a 2 hour flight and it’s the furthest one from the Twolves*).

The nearest eastern conference city to Memphis is Atlanta. Next is fucking Indianapolis. People who are like *”Memphis should be in the Eastern conference because it’s SO CLOSE to all the cities!”* just haven’t bothered to **really** look at a map. Flying to these cities requires time in airports and time in the air; for players it’s less because they’re on chartered jets but for fans? I mean, the amount of time it takes me to fly from LA to Memphis is not terribly longer than flying to somewhere in Texas or to Portland or NOLA. Conversely, when you account for the time spent in the airport, the time it takes to get from Memphis to NYC isn’t that big a difference than flying to LA.

Take your time and look at the cities: Memphis isn’t *”close”* to any of those eastern conference teams.
