Will Pinellas County approve financing for a new Rays stadium?

  1. Paywall so I couldn’t read the article. I’m hopeful that this gets approved. It would be vital for the community to have those dollars spent in the local economy. I love Rays baseball.

  2. The whole situation just makes me sad. I’m the only Rays fan at work, and obviously it’s easy for them to make fun of the stadium and attendance, but most of them are Cubs fans, and they professed they will not watch when the Cubs are bad. I don’t watch every Rays game, but for the ones I miss, I watch the highlights, look at the box scores, research the advanced stats.

But all of that may come to an end, if the Rays move. I cannot imagine rooting for another team. I’ll just be a fan of baseball, I guess.

  3. My guess is they delay the vote and try and negotiate more money out of the Rays. With the Rays playing 2025 in Tampa, Pinellas will lose some revenue. The contract states they have to be bonded by March. So while the Rays wanted to break ground in Jan, they technically have time before the contract is actually voided. I think in the end it will be approved. Even Latvala changed his tone a bit yesterday saying he looked forward to talking with the Rays and had a productive meeting with St Pete.
