Spending Big on Juan Soto is Not Enough for the Mets

The New York Mets are making waves in the MLB with their aggressive pursuit of star player Juan Soto.

With speculation swirling around a potential $660 million offer, the Mets are poised to make Soto the highest-paid player in baseball. But what does this mean for the team’s future?

Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down the implications of this blockbuster move, discussing how it could reshape the Mets’ lineup and impact other key players like Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.

Will the Mets’ strategy pay off, or are there more moves needed to secure a championship roster?

  1. If Juan Soto is the top free agent and getting all that money when the next five top free agents combined won’t equal $700 million, I would rather them sign three pitchers Alonso and one more bat, than the sign just one player. I know they may sign more players after Soto, but they won’t be expensive players after that I would much rather have quantity over quality because if Soto gets hurt, The whole team is screwed.

  2. Mets also are not going to wait on Soto to decide where he wants to go so my guess is that if Soto doesn’t accept their offer asap they not going to be wasting anytime and will start signing other players and just bypass Soto and that could burn him contract wise cause nobody will match the Mets including Dodgers

  3. I can counter the "bidding up" trick.

"We hereby rescind our offer. Furthermore, we will no longer make offers. Here's a legally binding document stating that fact."

Assuming such a document can be legally binding

  4. If they have 700 mill for Soto, then they better have 180 for Pete. Our homegrown guy that leads mlb with HR since coming to the league (if u count playoff HR which I do). Cant just replace Pete. It wasn’t enough last year and won’t be this year.

  5. I love how we are acting like money is a consideration for Cohen. The man literally adds BILLIONS to his net worth every year. The cost and luxury tax of players is irrelevant

  6. I’d like to see Manea back and trade for Crochett. Crochett is the most important piece. Ace type pitcher who’s cheap. Signing big contracts is great but need the cheaper ones to offset those costs
