  1. This was my main takeaway as well. Yes, Mahomes has had a bad deep ball this year, but I think its because he’s constantly worried about pressure getting to him. Even when the line holds up, I think it makes Mahomes panic because its just so unusual to have a clean pocket this year. How often does he step up in the pocket and throw it? I’d say far less often than him escaping the pocket and rolling right until he runs out of room to run.

  2. The thing is that Pat has been literally running for his life all season. His numbers are down, his throws are off, etc.. not because he lost “it,” but when you can’t plant your feet and read the defense, then you can’t be as accurate and play instinctual. He has to play defensive and force things.

  3. It’s almost like his tackles suck and he can’t get comfortable in the pocket 🤔 because the tackles are ass it’s putting more pressure on the IOL, which spreads everyone thin.

LT needs to be a priority in the draft. Kingsley is not the guy.

  4. I’m seeing a lot of poor handoffs of twists and stunts by the OTs. I wonder if teams are going to take advantage of Taylors quick step and bust him hard inside.  Some of these stunts look a lot like the DE crashing at the guard and the DT pulling through the hole.  Meaning the OTs aren’t giving the interior a heads up nor are they protecting their inside gap very well.

  5. I believe the stat was that he was pressured on ~40% of drop backs, which is really not a way to win a football game. Taken in conjunction with the fact that we were not able to run the ball successfully, it’s tough sledding. LT is obviously a problem, but I kind of lean towards Trey Smith being closer to a road grader than a consistent pass blocker.

In general I kind of think we would have been more successful keeping Brown and Wylie, vs swinging for Taylor given that we are paying the latter more than both of those guys combined. Especially when Taylor ended up just playing RT rather than LT.

Hopefully they can get Donovan Smith off the couch or something.

  6. The amount of pressure mahomes got was the deciding factor the whole game. He could do anything. Props to the bills.

  7. We have a decent O line except one big weakness which is like having an impenetrable submarine with one big hole. The water is still going to rush in even though the surrounding metal is strong.

  8. Yeah this was an insane throw. Mahomes should at max have 2 plays like this a game. I feel like it’s 10+ currently.

  9. The line situation isn’t really going to improve much, but the scheme will be better-suited to avoid that weakness when Pacheco is back. Hunt has been really effective because KC became very north-south in the run game due to his skill set and simply running off the great group of guards/center. Pacheco brings a lot more diversity in the playbook because of his abilities in space, working the flat, putting him in motion to create match-up problems, just generally spreading the field or dedicating a defender to him. Pacheco can also run it right down your throat too, so I think KC will be able to scheme away from pressure soon.

That said, sometimes you’re just going to need a chunk of yards and need time for the routes to develop, and the tackles just don’t have good enough footwork to be trusted. It can be coached, but it won’t be fixed by the playoffs. So while things may not appear much different on offense, opposing defenses will be playing KC differently. Defensive Ends may be asked to play more contain instead of rush, and Pat will have more quick, dump-off options that can gain chunk yardage.

KC can’t run everything that they want because of the protection issue, so it’s really just a matter of trusting Andy to create schemes and trusting Pat to make some better throws and skill guys to make the most of their limited opportunities.

  10. It’s been bad all season, especially the last two weeks when both Denver and Buffalo got constant pressure rushing 4 or 5. The liability at LT is killing us. I have to think Donovan Smith gets a call in a couple weeks (after the Panthers and Raiders games, which we should be able to win with our current players).

I hope Denver didn’t figure something out that other teams can replicate (I attributed it to the quality of their front 7). Although, if they did, I’m glad we have time to solve for it.
