Careful what you wish for /s

JK, this isn’t a big deal. Bobby Evan’s won’t be calling the shots, and even a GM with a shaky history can offer valuable experience.

I’m not in love with most of the front office moves this winter (other than my love for Posey making me feel warm in my tumtum), but I’m happy to let them cook.

  1. As long as they can get us results I’m happy. I don’t think it’ll happen but we should give them a season or two before we pull out our pitchforks

  2. It’s become clear that people are putting way more into this news than they should.

Bobby Evans is not running the front office. He is likely being brought in to coach and guide Buster Posey through the executive functions of the role, which Evans, whether we like it or not, has a shit ton of experience in doing.

What we know from Evans’ time as GM is the public side of things: the trades, drafts, etc. But we don’t see things such as hiring and assigning scouts, player development personnel and other important roles. Maintaining those roles, receiving reports, helping navigate front office issues, etc. That’s a part of the job that someone without much front office experience will need some mentoring on.

Bobby Evans has been a part of baseball front offices since the 90s, and his tenure as GM notwithstanding, he’s played a crucial role in some of the most successful teams in this franchise’s history. My guess is that he’ll be advising Buster on the “less public” side of the Baseball Operations.

  3. I don’t think Bobby will be a decision maker unlike last time. He’s to assist Buster.
