  1. I used to be sad when I would wake up and realize it wasn’t game day for the Wings. Nowadays I feel relief

  2. Big trig test today, I should have it. But if I learned from the red wings, even tho I should be okay, it just means I’m gonna be dissapointed

  3. Just want to remind everybody that no matter what happens, both of our goalies are fine as hell.

  4. My sources inside the Red Wings organization tell me that the reason Yzerman isn’t planning on firing Lalonde is because he hates you personally. If you’re unsure whether or not you are the “you” in this report, just know that you are.

  5. The absolutely mental breakdown this sub is going to have when they don’t fire Lalonde until the off season and then hire Quennville is going to be something.

  6. Frustrating thing about that road trip is that it felt like a few things were starting to click to an extent beforehand going into it. Forwards were starting to settle into lines, defense had improved a bit. Then starting the trip, other guys that hadn’t got going yet started to produce (the Berggren – Kasper line has points to show for it now). It is what it is at this point, just turn the jets on and get past that ugly trip. Play with urgency because now there’s plenty

  7. That recent Red Wings OhNyquist was… pretty damn depressing. He is completely right, obviously.

I thought about taking the train from Chicago to Detroit this weekend for the game against the Bruins but I couldn’t justify ticket ($200ish for good seats) + hotel.

I think the sad truth is we are still three years away from being competitive. When cap space finally opened up we tried to rush a rebuild with a lot of relatively expensive mid-tier players.

Then again, I didn’t expect us to be “good” last year and for stretches of time we were “good”. I don’t know anything. I’m just a guy who watches hockey and played too much NHL 20 during the pandemic. I am also bald which means I’m not good at coaching hockey. I know my limitations.

  8. Ansar Khan noted the following last night on Mlive:

    ———–
While some of the team’s regression from last season when it missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker can be attributed to coaching, part of the problem also is a lack of talent.

Scoring figured to be the Red Wings’ biggest issue following the departures of forwards David Perron, Robby Fabbri and Daniel Sprong and defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Jake Walman, players who combined for 75 goals. Their hope was free agents Vladimir Tarasenko and Erik Gustafsson, along with a full season with Patrick Kane and Jonatan Berggren and coupled with internal growth would compensate for much of the lost offense.

Instead, those four players have combined for seven goals.

I didn’t realize that we lost 75 goals worth of production with the players that left. That’s a bit of a stinger. If Yzerman also feels that their talent has decreased, then I highly doubt Lalonde will get fired. Steve will likely let him ride out the season.

  9. Deep dive into team statistics:

Tied at bottom of NHL in goals scored

Last in NHL in penalty kill

Last (by far) in NHL in shots on goal

Bottom three in NHL in shots on goal allowed

Wings doing well (top three) in power play and above average goaltending.
