[Kyles] Jerod Mayo says Cole Strange will return to practice today

  1. People may hate he was a first round pick, but he didn’t pick himself. The fact is, he was this team’s starting LG and any contribution he can make to help the offensive line is welcome. Particularly since the interior has been a mess lately.

  2. People were understandably upset about his draft position but even at his worst he’s still a starting caliber guard. Hope he hasn’t lost a step with the injuries

  3. Good. Hope Wallace comes back too

Strange was started to look a lot more consistent last year before he got hurt. Seeing if he can keep that up over the last month or two of the season will be well worth watching. His athleticism could fix LG or C

  4. Hopefully this means we’ve seen the last of Jordan. Strange/Brown/Onwenu is actually a good interior if Brown continues to develop. If Lowe keeps his play up we can be a lot more flexible with our draft picks. I’m still in the camp of drafting the best skill player available. This draft will probably be our last chance to get a blue chip receiver for the next few years

  5. Sweet. Literally any O-Line help is welcome, especially from a guy that’s at least shown flashes of NFL starting guard play.

  6. The fact that so many people are banking on one of the worst LGs in the league to improve our OL just shows how bad Wolf is at his job.

  7. I don’t think there is much hope here, but the idea of Cole Strange fits so well within an outside zone scheme that I’m pretty sure that is the sole reason they drafted him in the first place when they started toying with that scheme a few years ago under Patricia as OC.

  8. I feel like he could become a very serviceable center and should truly look into shifting him there full time with the expectation David Andrews career is unfortunately over. That would leave us with roughly 3/5 of our OL spots covered for the foreseeable future. I know Ben Brown has been a nice surprise, but Strange was an average Guard and if he could be an above average center i say make the change.

  9. People forget that this guy was a monster at the start of his rookie year. I think a lot of his struggles are injury related, which again I acknowledge is a problem. He’s missed a lot of camps. I think offensive line is probably the worst position to miss camp.

My hope is that he can stabilize the LG position the rest of the year cause Jordan has been getting cooked lately. Then maybe next year if Andrews retires see if he can play C.

  10. People thinking he’s going to take over for Andrews at center really aren’t factoring in the contract.

  11. Always good to have guys back even if they aren’t the best. You have to have the depth and options.

    Silver linings my friends!

  12. Depending on his fitness, he’s likely better than Jordan.  Id be curious how he adapts to a new blocking scheme and if he’s more comfortable.

I’d also be curious if they try and transition him to C at some point this season.  Theyve proven that they have no qualms (to a fault) with moving players around in the OL if it thinks they can get the best 5 players in the field at the same time. Brown has been a champ for coming in, giving us a real C, and settling down our OL – but he’s still not good.

  13. One of the best guards in the league is coming back and show the league why he was a first rounder. Will forever root for him F what any hater says

  14. The “bust, his career is over, worst first rounder in NFL history” crowd is downplaying this as expected lol
