Collectors have narrowed down which packs have the highest chance based on factors like the tax stamp and state of origin but like Schrödinger’s cat it is more fun to think about than to find out

  1. No one in their right mind would open to check. It’s far more valuable as that “Schrodinger’s Honus Wagner card” than opening it and more than likely destroying all it’s value.

  2. There’s gotta be a way to see through the packaging without opening it.

I’ve definitely seen a few forensics labs on network television cop shows do it so it’s totally a real technology.

  3. Somewhere in my parents’ closets are some unopened Beta packs of Magic the Gathering that I filched from Toys R Us when I was a bored teenager. These may or may not contain a Black Lotus.

  4. Does it?? I’ve always wondered about some of these, given the factory numbers on the card compared to the numbers on the packs; I’m pretty sure not everything “Sweet Caporal” from the time period actually had cards (only limited packs/products)

  5. There should be a condition that if you buy it searching for the card, you also have to smoke the entire pack.

  6. It’s funny to me that they also give grades for the quality of the cigarette packs like they do cards. I guess it could translate to how beat up the card is though.

  7. Would there be leeching out from the cigarettes into the card over this time to discolor and ruin it? Asking out of ignorance.

  8. Wouldn’t this actually hurt the market for the card? It’s so valuable basically because of the rarity alone. Wouldn’t adding another card into the supply devalue the current ones? Or is it so rare, that it doesn’t matter whatsoever?

  9. The sports store just a couple minutes walk from me has a check that is signed by Jackie Robinson. Certainly a unique way to have a signature.

  10. I wonder what the card inside would grade. Unlikely to get the Wagner but might get a decent t206 worth grading.

  11. Theres actually been a scandal of people using CT scanners to look inside. Bet it would work here

  12. I wanna break into the vault and start tearing them open with reckless disregard. Then unwind with a sweet sweet caporal

  13. man if only i could go back in time, grab one of these, and come back. it would be a gamechanger

then again, i’d probably get arrested and/or lynched back then simply b/c i’m not a rich white man

  14. If Honus Wagner is worth a fortune, and there are “150 Subjects” in the “Base Ball Series” then what are the other 149 worth?

    Surely they’re not worthless, right?

  15. The odds of it being the Wagner are so absurdly low. There are a total of 48,587 t206 cards with the Sweet Caporal backs graded by PSA. Of those, there have been 20 graded Honus Wagner cards with the Sweet Caporal back – so you have a 0.04% chance based on the known t206 population. Better odds than the lottery, so fuck it – I’d say go for it!
