He's also averaging a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio and a solid defensive rating of 109.6, which is better than the team's overall defensive rating of 111.7 (per Statmuse: https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/zach-collins-defensive-rating-ranking).

His 50/40/90 splits will undoubtedly come down a bit, but he's been really effective in the backup center role so far this season.

I know he gets a lot of hate among Spurs fans, but flowers to Zach for a bounce back year thus far💐 Here's to hoping it only continues with Tre Jones back in the bench unit.

  1. Just… gonna leave this here.

and to add on to your passing numbers. 20% of buckets that get made when zach is on the floor come from a Zach Collins assist. Only players that have better numbers on our team are PGs. It also puts him at 6th in the league(for big men) behind Jokic, Embiid, Sabonis, Sengun and Randle

Assist/to ratio is 14th in the league of all big men. All this with only a 17% usage rate(43rd in the league out of all big men)

  2. Yet he has hands like frying pans. Can’t catch a pass to save his life at times. No offense to him.

  3. I don’t dislike Zach, he’s just a little light on defense but his offense is really serviceable, well rounded. He’s a sneaky good passer which helps a lot. That said I won’t mind when we upgrade at backup C

  4. I’m sorry but despite the decent looking stats he still drags the team down on both ends. Teams are not afraid of him from 3 and have been clogging up the paint to stop the back doors. We can’t get him the ball in the post nor is he a particularly good target to get it to. Defensively teams are not afraid of him. I’m not saying Bassey is the answer but his style of play has looked much better with this group.

  5. He needs to keep his threes consistent. He’s also got relatively okay footwork/jump hook.

I agree he’s serviceable – and I also think his performances are purely a confidence thing.

  6. I’m no Collins Fanboy or anything but the amount of hate he gets on the sub is borderline parody. At this point it feels like half the people in here are just waiting for him to have a bad play so they can blame the team’s struggles solely on him

He’s still not been a huge needle mover, but he’s honestly been a perfectly adequate backup big man. At times a bit better than adequate

His passing and his floor spacing has been a very nice addition to the bench

His defense is still genuinely not good, but it hasn’t been nearly as bad as people like to make it out to be

If he keeps playing like this the rest of his contract it’ll be a perfectly fine outcome for the Spurs

  7. He’s been okay, last year too. I always feel like I’m watching a different Collins than everyone else, either that or all the hate really is just hive mind

Never gonna try to argue he’s super good but he gets all this flack for being trash on defense but like bruh what do you want him to do when he spends vast majority of his time out there with Keldon, Malaki, Mamu, Cedi, Doug and probably like two other trash defenders that I’m forgetting from the past couple years

Also idk if it’s just me but I feel like dude has the worst whistle luck In the league or something. He definitely has some bonehead fouls but like half his fouls always seem like they’re just those soft garbage fouls that refs are always so inconsistent with, except they always call them with Zach

  8. I get the stats but spurs have built 10+ point leads only to let other team back in when Collins/Branham/Keldon are playing together. Zach gets too much hate but his peak is a serviceable bench PF, imo probably a deep bench PF. He is trying hard this season you can tell he genuinely looks scared out there for his playing time and that he’s trying harder, smarter, albeit over thinking sometimes. I do like that Mitch benched him a couple of times in second halves this season too, made him come back more locked in, as much as he can really
