Penguins collapse once again and Tristan Jarry seals their overtime fate

1. I'm getting tired of seeing Mike Sullivan chewing gum on the bench.

2. The third period, the Penguins were playing not to lose and it cost them. They sat back on their heels and were not aggressive enough in that third period.

   I saw a stat this morning that Mike Kelly from the NHL Network mentioned, The Penguins are dead last answering when the other team scores a goal. The Penguins are scoring 27% of the time after the other team scores, that is dead last in the NHL. That tells you all you need to know.

   They sat back and got too conservative.

3. Unfortunately they got the loser point. And that was only thanks to Jarry as they played pretty poorly all game.

First goal was on Gryz, didn't have nor stay on his man in the corner and let Point go around behind the net while Gryz is still standing there in Timbuktu as EK while still holding his guy slides in to try to also block the shot at the same time. The game tying one 💯on Jarry, ofc he can't stop scoring when playing the Bolts, if only it was into the OTHER NET! As well as the OTG. WHAT'RE YOU DOING?! I'm literally about to tune out until the trade deadline where Dubas HAS to make moves, otherwise until then all my attention turns to the Steelers where they can actually somewhat HOLD a lead. This is absolutely embarrassing. I'm only shocked that Jake, a former penguin mind you, didn't score a point on them.

5. I'm very happy with the third line. People will say Oc regressed offensively this year and that's fair. But he didn't get top line minutes or practice in preseason w crosby. I think sully played that wrong, but that's me. But I think Doc as a lars eller type for now and the future is something to be happy about. Plus, jesse and him are getting some chemistry (I don't hate how poulin is playing).

6. Nobody wants to play defense, including the Defensemen.

8. DOC looks so much better as a Center. Dubas should resign him for 3-4 years at a cap cost

9. Tampa also doesn't look that deadly anymore. Don't see them winning another Cup with that group. Losing Stamkos on the PP really makes a bug difference for them

10. How much of last night's game was just the Lightning being a better team and waking up after a sluggish start? I mean back in the Pens better days they used to have games like that all the time. I get the frustration, but other teams … like Tampa … just have way better players than Pittsburgh. And when the better players decide to play hard, they tend to take over.

12. Blown leads seem to be the common norm for Pens. Unless they get rid of this funk, they will not be able to win any more games.

13. It's time for the conversation to switch to Dubas from Sully. Use the Caps as the argument. The Caps are in 1st in the Metro.
    Caps: 18GP: 13W-4L-1OT and a +28 Goal Differential +28 is 2nd overall in the league
    Pens: 21GP: 7W-10L-4OT and a -26 Goal Differential -26 is worst in the league (-21: Sharks is 2nd in the league)
    The Blue Jackets have played only 18 games and only have 2 less points than the Pens at 16 points and a -4 Goal Differential.
    Pens are 1st in Goals against with 83. The Sharks are 2nd at 71. The Caps are 7th at 50.
    To bad Ovechkin got hurt because the Caps were a DUBAS REVELATION. Dubas destroyed the end of 87 and 71's careers. Dubas brought in all garbage players. It is obvious Dubas can't do player or coach evaluations. Dubas' crap free agents and moves: Ryan Graves, Matt Grzylek, Erik Karlsson, and signing Jarry. COMPARE THAT TO THE CAPS GM. Dylan Strome, Rasmus Sandin, Jakob Chychrun, Vrana, Charlie Lindgren, and Logan Thompson. Not to mention before Dubas in 2019 The Caps drafted Connor McMichael in the 1st round 25th overall while the Pens drafted Sam Poulin 1st round 21st overall. Caps also got Aliaksei Protas in the 3rd round in 2019. Connor McMichael: 18GP/12G/7A/19Pts, Protas: 18GP/7G/11A/18Pts while Poulin has 10 career games and 2 points.
    The Washington Capitals "fired" Peter Laviolette as their head coach and subsequently hired Spencer Carbery to replace him on May 30, 2023; making Carbery the new head coach of the team. PENS HAVE MARRIED SULLIVAN because they can't do coach evaluations and have no idea how to hire a coach. That's obvious. Nobody cares that Dubas just like in Toronto made all bad moves. Graves, EK65, and Jarry SUCK. Dubas wasted the end of Crosby and Geno's careers. He signed Graves = YIKES!!!!

14. Don't forget they were up 3-0 on SJ and found themselves in overtime (eventually winning a shootout) just one game prior.

    You have to tear it down and rebuild. Have to! This only gets worse until you do.

15. That second goal was a soft leaky goal. I don't know why you are giving him a pass on that one. Soft as I ever seen.

16. A big part of that shutdown defense from the 4th and 5th cup was assistant coach Jacques Martin.

17. The best penguins teams had a great 3c. Jordan staal for a few seasons and nick bonino. Bonino blocked everything he could get in front of and staal was physical. This team doesn't have a shutdown 3c. They're not good enough to shut it down defensively. Once letang is back, they should scratch grzelcyk and shea. Throw pickering with karlsson and see how he handles it. If it doesn't work will, pickering can be sent back down. Put graves with st ivany. Honestly, graves and st ivany have been the best pairing for the pens this season

18. Great podcast guys, appreciate it.. and yes great point Sullivan earlier in his coaching career never blew leads but for whatever reason that ranges playoff series 3 years ago broke them in terms of blowing leads and they have not recovered

I'm so tired of people saying they can't fire Sullivan because who would coach the team next, and buy response to that is who's coaching the Washington capitals right now exactly, nobody ever heard of that guy and look at the job he is doing anybody right now would be an improvement over Sullivan sorry to say that
