Julius Randle’s frustration at Rudy for not clearing the paint

  1. It is a very funny situation. Randle has a less mobile big man on him and wants to drive. Rudy has a smaller guy on him and wants the post-up. Neither play is really high percentage as both guys are turnover prone, so the results of the play is a turnover that can be blamed on both guys.

  2. I’ve played with players like Randle before. It affects the whole team. You see a guy who gives no effort on defense, hogs the ball offensively, then gets rewarded with stats (and a huge contract).

Other players see this and they start to think why is he getting away with this? It’s not fair. I should do it too.

Trickles down the team and everyone starts to play selfish. Less effort because now it’s about me.

Getting Randle out of here asap.

  3. At the end of the day they both acted selfish, but only Rudy’s actions directly led to a turnover at a critical point in the game. This was more on him than randle. Can anyone blame randle for thinking Rudy probably won’t catch that?

  4. Not a Wolves fan, just observing…

Imagine being Rudy Gobert right now. You are constantly dragged for both basketball and non-basketball issues. A lot of people just simply do not like you. Who knows why? Despite it, you are basically a perennial DPOY, the ultimate rim protector. And you’ve worked sooooo hard on your offensive game. It’s still pretty shaky, but it’s come a long way. You make more free throws, you have a bit of footwork in the post.

Your team has come soooo far. Last year was a breath of fresh air, and you even figured out collectively how to defeat Nikola Jokić. Team effort. Vibes are good, lots of optimism. Everyone’s on the same page, defenders all up and down the roster, and now you’ve got a dynamic superstar at the 2. And you’re a vital part of this team. It’s finally all coming together.

And here you are, with the game on the line. Your team has traded away the offensive beast who can score in multiple ways, exchanging him for Randle. Who now gets to bring the ball up the court and then give you the stink eye for posting up a smaller defender. You are called for 3 seconds, and both Randle and Edwards are yelling at you. You lose the game, everyone’s pissed off. Partly at you. If coach wanted you to clear out for Randle or Ant, you would have. You’re in a perfect position to get the ball, possibly dunk it or get to the line. But the new guy on the team won’t even look at you.

People talk about the Wolves ‘figuring things out’ but this is an ugly ending to a winnable game. The worst part is that it undermines the terrific vibes of a team that felt almost inevitable just a few months ago. I’m not sure why so many people hate Rudy Gobert. But I feel pretty bad for him as a player right now.

  5. kat makes this pass every single time regardless of rudy’s offensive shortcomings. i think that is where a lot of rudy’s frustration comes from – just last season he had great synergy w/ his 4 and now he has to play w/ randle who contributes nothing on defense and demands the ball on offense.

  6. you guys got a problem with DD/Randle. They are both very emotional guys and emotional players. We have seen this from Ju over the years (I am a big Randle fan).

NBA is so tough. If you are not at your best all the time it’s going to get exposed repeatedly. Most of Randle’s slander comes from this. He was a beast for us and a great teammate. He takes a play off now and then and is overly emotional. Also coachable, and slid to #2 behind Brunson with no push.

I don’t know what the solution is but Randle and DD look like guy who don’t want to be there. I am quite sure they are both really stung by being traded, and I don’t blame them.

Also we love KAT and will give him a wonderful home. He’s back to putting up the #s he did last time under Thibs and we got the muscle to keep him out of trouble. Love him. Sorry for what’s happening. I do hope both Randle and DD get sorted and play better. When they are good you will love them. Both are electric guys, play both ends and are good teammates. They are just hurting as men IMO
