Yakov Trenin has been as advertised for Wild, except for scoring

  1. Considering our scoring sucked last year and the expectation was to raise that, I’d say he is not as advertised

  2. Trenin’s career years are back to back 24 points seasons. He was never going to be a bigger time goal scorer. But at the moment he’s +5. Which tells me he’s at least not on the ice when the Wild get scored on. I’ll take his physical presence and defense as the Wild are playing well right now.

  3. “Even [Kirill Kaprizov](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/nhl/player/kirill-kaprizov-j0tNu83deRRVSp95/), who is the same age and grew up playing with and against Trenin in his hometown of Chelyabinsk, Russia, in tournaments, forecasted before the season that Trenin could score”

With Yurov, we’ll be tied with the most Russian born players in the league at 4. I now wonder if his signing is part of a bigger picture to resign Kirill. Certainly not completely, but @ $3.5M you have to expect more from a forward.

  4. Here’s my take on your post. As the great Mike Tice once said, “Enjoy the season!” Yeah he’s not scoring. He’s a big strong force, should maybe be used differently, but you know what? It takes many roles to make a great team, and he’s +5 playing bottom 6 without scoring and we’re #2 in the freakin league??
    ENJOY THE SEASON!!

  5. If we are winning and he is a net positive and doesn’t have any points, I couldn’t care less about his production.. we’re winning and he’s not allowing goals while he’s playing, that’s perfectly fine with me.

Important to remember that these big guys come in handy at some point and especially in the post season. Give him some time, he’s looked better and better every game.

  6. he was advertised as a bottom 6 defense-first forward that would improve the PK. his role is to not get scored against but keep the energy up while the scoring lines rest. Trenin is a +5 with 1 point and our PK is better so far this year.

yes, his contract is about a million higher than I would’ve liked but I don’t understand what people were expecting. I never once anticipated him to score >20pts on the season or play with anyone more offensive than Hartman.
