I might have understood this number before the season, but we're sitting 3pts out of 8th with 2 games in hand… Seems a bit low, you think .500 hockey is sustainable for this team?

Disclaimer: of course it's super early, I just thought we'd be at least around 10%

  1. Sounds right. We’re outside now. A lot of teams right around us. I would maybe bump up to 1% at the most.

  2. I think they know the reality that we are way too volatile to continue this ‘success’. We beat TB last night but had to score 7 goals and go into OT to do it.

Our goaltending is wildly inconsistent, we can’t keep guys off the IR, our passing has been largely abysmal, and while I think we have way more juice than I thought we would I’d say come January we will be out.

I HOPE I’m wrong. Just getting a single playoff period is a huge win, but I just don’t see it happening with how sloppy we can be.

  3. I do not think we will make the playoffs but there are a bunch of teams I am equally confident will not make the playoffs that are being given like 5-15% odds. I think we should probably be somewhere around 7% which is still low but dramatically higher than where we are now.

  4. I don’t know where they are getting the .2% number, but the playoffs are pretty close to being locked in by thanksgiving and just more about jostling seeds.

“Of the 240 teams to find themselves in a playoff spot on U.S. Thanksgiving since the 2005-06 season*, 184 have gone on to make the post-season the following spring. That’s a 76.7 per cent success rate. Of the 56 teams that fell out of the picture after the Thanksgiving milestone, 31 were hovering within a single point of the final wild-card berth. Just two teams in the salary-cap era have found themselves outside the playoffs after sitting ahead of the final berth by 10 or more points.”

  5. Our issue is consistency. We can put together solid games. Solid goaltending, scoring, defense – just not all the time.

That’s normal for where we are at, and actually the strides we are making are a good sign we are taking a step forward.

Also some of our players are ass and I assume with that massive amount of cap money we have to spend, there will be some upgrades made in the offseason. Waddell said even before Johnny passed that this was a “see what we have” year.

  6. I feel like theyve got a punchers chance. It’s unlikely, but they’ve shown they can out up points, but inevitably it’s going to come down to goaltending and defense. Some of the goals last night, Elvis couldn’t have done much, but I did not feel like if a big save was needed, he was going to be there

  7. We seem to hit a nail with coaching oersonell. I wont mind picking top 10 in draft considering we have quite a few rentals. Well get only better moving forward

  8. Very correct imo. D corps is shaky and goaltending is untrustworthy. Forwards are largely young and/or inconsistent. Gonna be more dark stretches in our future like the 6 game loss streak we just had. Pretty inevitable

  9. If we win our next two, we’re in the last playoff spot with the same number of games played aa everyone else.

We’re clearly in the hunt, but I highly doubt we hold this trend.

  10. I believe that they include some data from last year for the first 20 games of the season. So after a couple more games we will see what they think of the CBJ based on this season alone

  11. I’m of the mind that expected this. We are just coming off the debatably darkest period. This year in particular was brutal, worst day in franchise history only happened a month ago. I would have seen 0.0 this year and been fine with it given the circumstances.

  12. I put 20 bucks on CBJ getting the cup, my optimism doesnt care about those numbers. 😀
P.S. that is 1/20th of my monthly salary, for perspectives sake
