Analyzing Yankees’ payroll situation for 2025 MLB season and beyond

  1. Really our payroll situation doesn’t look bad at all. Hicks and DJ will be coming off the books in the next 1-2 years and Stanton will be making less too.

  2. The biggest thing for me I don’t see being talked about in a potential Soto deal is opt outs. What year will he want one? I guarantee he’ll want one and I would guess it would be after Year 3 or 4. That’ll be the very end of the Judge/Cole/Stanton window and if I’m Soto, a great time to reasses where the Yanks are at then and whether I want to stay or look for a better situation. He clearly doesn’t mind going from team to team and I highly doubt he’s going to tie himself long term to any organization without an opt out and a chance for even higher score of a contract when he’s still relatively young and most likely producing at a great rate.
