Penguins 5-Minute Postgame: Embarrassing. Big changes; Something has to give

  1. this is what eventually happens to every successful NHL team. it's time for a rebuild which may take 7 years or 9.. this is just the price you pay for 16 years of playoffs and 3 cups with the same core. nothing to be sad about, unless you are an absolute gloryhunter.

  2. Mario Lemieux and former CEO wonk David Morehouse deserve the brunt of blame for this debacle. Any management team that would hire a mortal enemy of the franchise to be its GM needs a brain scan. That would be inexperienced do-nothing Ron Hextall, of course.

  3. Hockey is physical, old guys lose stamina. Hockey is also mental more than anything, a coaching change could have a strong psychological effect. Trade Rust, his value is still high, get some youthful energy. Probably too little too late. Dubas is an idiot for not realizing this. If he did, he would have kept PO Joseph, only 1.5 mil a year for a 24 year old defenseman who's pretty good.

  4. No one is saying Sullivan isnt a good coach. Every coach has a shelf life. Jim Montgomery was just let go 2 years after the bruins won the presidents cup. I dont feel bad for FSG. They didnt know about hockey and signed a big check for a fellow Boston guy after going around their GM and Prez of Hockey Ops to negotiate with him directly. If they are going to be bad, at least bring up the kids to get some experience. They will be fun to watch. Some of the NHL guys look like they are somewhere between bored and bothered. Waive them. The kids will bring an energy and excitement to the locker room.

  5. The fire sale needs to start. They need to get younger, will miss the playoffs for the third year in a row. Coach needs fired. Dubas need fired. Start over. It can't get any worse with new people.

  6. Firw Dubas,he set the Maple franchise back, now he is on the verge of putting the Penguin franchise so deep in a hole,it will probably take a decade to crawl out of it! This team should have been blown up after the 2019 -2020 season. When Murray Malkin and LeTang trades among a few others, could have had this team rolling again by now!!

  7. So if the TEAM is bad. Then its not the coach if he has changed lines with what he has, changed plans, etc, etc.. at some point the team is what it is, and its all on the GM to get better players for the coach to utilize. So …. fire the GM?

  8. How could they possibly have any confidence in the coach. He continues to run out the same tired strategies. Plays the same goaltender over and over until exhaustion. They've missed the playoffs two years in a row. The season they did miss the playoffs – again, goaltenders both injured – one was overplayed and the other not enough. The previous season they missed the playoffs, Jerry admitted to be injured, and yet Sullivan shunted him out again. "I don't want to sit on the bench" is not a proper response to "Why are you playing if injured?". They were eliminated by a horrible Chicago team in a listless effort that season. If that wasn't enough to turf Sullivan, the proceeding seasons certainly have much evidence to do so. Go hire Bruce Boudreau, he might not get playoff results, but at least he's more apt to get them to the playoffs. Something that Sullivan certainly cannot do.

  9. FSG needs to wake up, it's an organizational problem, from ownership down. There's a lot of stiffs on this team, collecting paychecks, who are on their 3rd, 4th, 5th teams. No desire, not willing to defend, horrible in front of their net, they just stand there watching. Couldn't agree more Dan, major changes are needed. Sid starts a fight to try and get the stiffs to play, no response. Sid shouldn't be breathed on, but again, nothing.

  10. Nothing has to give whatsoever. This is a rebuilding team. The harder the fall the better the picks they will get in 2025. That's where we are at. Keep calling for something to change, nothing will…They simply CAN continue on the path they are on
