  1. I’d imagine Montgomery feels a bit of gratitude to the Blues for giving him a chance after his substance abuse issues, thus he was happy to take the Blues offer instead of letting things percolate.

  2. As a St. Louis fan it's fantastic. If Jim cannot get the bums to play fantastic then it's on the bums. The Blues have been well below the mediocrity we expect as fans…

  3. Ironic Boston has fired three Jack Adams award winning coaches who have been rehired by other teams , Claude Julien hired after 7 days / Bruce Cassidy hired after 8 days and Jim Montgomery hired after 5 days

  4. Bannister helped develope alot of the current Blues, in Springfield. St. Louis just doesn't have much front line scoring to stay competitive against the better teams in their division. Armstrong just didn't want some other team getting Montgomery, and he told Bannister that, when he fired him. This season Montgomery won't give them enough of a bump, to make the playoffs. Binnington has not looked good either, so changing coaches will do little. Case in point, the Islanders. Patrick Roy hasn't been able to jumpstart the Isles.

  5. The Bruins never fix the REAL problems, instead fire Cassidy, who goes on to win the Cup in Vegas, and now Montgomery, who is likely to win one, though not this season. The Blues are supposed to be stacked, with prospects, in Springfield, so maybe Nikita Alexandrov gets another look.

  6. I think drew bannister got more than I thought but for Montreal Canadiens he s better damn played 3 years in Tampa Bay and good experience maybe not as head coach dame good interm he won't be unemployed long by December he s rehired

  7. Jim Montgomery is a different animal but some teams need drew bannister because young development dmen got 15 years experience teams need that and I'm sure he s going east can t say where eastern Conference is possible

  8. Monty was picked up to manage this team with 5 first rounders ready to join them in the next year or 2. The potential for a powerhouse is there and hopefully he'll pull it all together for them.

  9. Bannister was never Armstrongs first choice. His extension for two years in St. Louis was considered a shock, but no one else was really available.

I wonder why the talks with Boston went sideways outside of the record this season.

Montgomery, married a woman from St. Louis and they have a family together.

I anticipated a coaching change at some point this season, but I anticipated it after the holidays. However, with Nashville, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and even Chicago struggling, the signing can be seen as both proactive and defensive, ensuring that he is in St. Louis for the next 4 1/2 to 5 years minimum.

All this with the caveat coaches are hired to be fired. I do not anticipate the blues making the playoffs in 24– 25 because this roster lacks a consistent work ethic and they put themselves behind the gun given the considerable competition in the Western Conference. I don’t even know if we can get back to 500 overall at the end of the season with the current roster.

That’s why they play the games.

  10. All of us St. Louis Blues fans could see this coaching change coming. Jim Montgomery has strong St. Louis connections and his wife is from St. Louis and he loves the St. Louis community. He will be a major improvement and hopefully the Blues can turn it around.

  11. Blues fan here since I was a boy in '67. This team is not the '19 Cup team. No way will Monty bring this group to the promised land. This is a transition towards the upper eschalon with a top coach leading them. Monty has some job security with the Blues.

  12. So does he still get paid by Boston since he was under contract? I’ve always wondered how coaches and contracts work. He was under contract and fired so that doesn’t nullify the contract right? So now he has 2 paychecks?
