Friedman pushed back claiming Jiricek wouldn’t have played in Cleveland on Sat. if that were the case.
He’s heard Columbus are looking for a “similar young player… someone who hasn’t ‘popped’ yet.”
Doesn’t think EDM has what #CBJ wants. Friedman wonders about Nashville, Minnesota, and Philadelphia as potential trade partners.

“and Philadelphia”
Yeah I’ll take Michkov for him 1 for 1, thanks.
Another center thank you
Idk how to feel about this one. I hate giving up on a top 10 prospect so early like this. The prior regime fucked his development to start out. We need a big RHD like him in the pipeline. Now if it’s his attitude and Waddell doesn’t feel comfortable with it, then i understand. They shouldn’t settle for just any prospect though.
It would be pretty cool if we could get Marco Rossi.
The more I think about it, the less I feel there is teams that have comparable prospects/players to Jiricek that are also willing to trade them. Like Philadelphia and Nashville have prospects and young pieces, but I don’t think any of them are similar types of prospects to what Jiricek is. And Minnesota has young talent, but idk if they would trade them right now (especially for a prospect like Jiricek)
The only one that kinda makes sense to me that I’ve seen speculated is someone like Shane Wright in Seattle
This is precisely why I wanted to draft Parekh or Yakemchuk. RHD is a massive need in our system and we needed an insurance policy against Jiricek.
Maybe I am wrong, but does this team seem to have a higher frequency to trading with Philadelphia than others in the NHL?
He just can’t skate and hasn’t shown any inclination to get better. He’s had two years. Look at KJ—-worked his ass off. Look at Oliver—-worked his as off, look at Jiricek…
Not sure how I feel.
At this moment all I know is, if Jiricek leaves Columbus and becomes a superstar D-Man in a diff market I will be depressed/annoyed.
Maybe there’s way more going on behind the scenes than we know but I think giving up on Jiricek already is crazy
I think these prospects are realistic options from teams that would be interested in a young top 4 potential RHD:
Dalibor Dvorsky – Center (STL)
Jimmy Snuggerud – Winger (STL)
Quentin Musty – Winger (SJ)
Konsta Helenius – Center/Winger (BUF)
Jiri Kulich – Winger (BUF)
Danila Yurov – Center/Winger (MIN)
Liam Ohgren – Winger (MIN)
Marco Kasper – Center/Winger (DET)
Sacha Boisvert – Center (CHI)
Oliver Moore – Center/Winger (CHI)
Matt Savoie – Winger (EDM)
There are more names, but these are ones that seem realistic for both teams. And these are just prospects that haven’t played in the NHL or maybe just a game or two (Ohgren, Kaspar, Kulich).
Meanwhile Jiricek scored the overtime winner for the Monsters yesterday. Fun game!
He’s not a great skater and has gotten exposed a couple times because of it, especially in his own end.
Sometimes a change of scenery is best for both sides.
I wouldn’t be torn up if the return is good. Low first rounder and a decent prospect maybe. It’s important to note he sat out his entire draft year with injury, which is an important year for development. He may have been ranked top 3 before that but that means nothing. That was an insanely weak draft anyway. His injury means he didn’t develop for a whole year and he’s not really showing signs of developing still.
I’m not sure what to do with him. He could have a good season in the AHL but he’s already done that and it’s proven nothing. I’d prefer him put his head down and work with the skating coach but who knows at this point.
He had a good first year in the AHL but that doesn’t mean a whole lot. He’s honestly regressed since then.
His skating worries me the most. Needs to improve that pronto.
