7-1 without Auston Matthews. Thought it was appropriate to bring out this good ol’ Damien tweet

  1. I’m not sure there’s a sports writer that I’ve disliked more than Cox. Simmons? Well maybe. But they are definitely neck and neck.

  2. More so for a laugh. Obviously not to be taken serious

Maybe I should have mentioned in the title but this tweet is from 2018 lol

  3. I thought about this exactly

    Jason Robertson
    Wyatt Johnson
    Miro hesikanen

    For
    Auston Matthews

Just was a fun one in my head, I wouldn’t do it because Matthews, but I had fun putting together some packages in my head

  4. He is probably joking, but still what a moronic take from someone who is a professional journalist. These types of tweets should be done by trolls, not so called professionals, lol.

  5. Trading Papi has been something my best friend and I joke around about whenever he’s out. There’s no way people are actually serious about it

  6. Everyone once in a while Damo has to remind you that there is actually a competition for worst sports writer in Toronto and Simmons doesn’t have it locked down as much as we think.

  7. Makes me think of all the people who were trashing Rielly by pointing out their record without him.

  8. I think these are fun ideas to imagine and play out but lets be real. JT is a bag of milk, he’s open and he isn’t going to last forever.

  9. Here’s the thing the cap is about to skyrocket and JT is going to take a team friendly deal next year. We can literally just sign everyone and still have space to bring in another piece. Then we can trade Matthew’s in 2028 if we still aren’t having success.

  10. Remember when the PP was briefly amazing when Mathews got hurt and lots of people thought it was his fault? Now it can’t score again.

  11. I also think we should trade the greatest player in team history because of a hot 10 game stretch

  12. Imagine Treliving bringing this idea to the board. What if we trade the cash cow face of the franchise for magic beans?

  13. It’s refreshing to see after so many years people actually not shitting on Johnny T. He’s always been this player, for some reason everyone had their heads up their asses.

Obviously they would never trade Matthews unless it was for McDavid but let’s all celebrate that we have Johnny T on our team and the man’s been a stud year in and year out.

  14. Jt is in a contract year every player of his calibre and age in his position gonna play like this not that he wasnt good before but this the best jt since his first/second year as a leaf

  15. I get we all disagree, but our best two games against Boston last playoffs was without Matthews in our lineup. They had zero idea how to play us without Matthews.

I feel like there is a complacency issue with Matthews on the ice, it’s not the WORST take in my opinion.

  16. Hey, remember when the media said trade Sundin because Antropov scored a hat trick against Florida. Glad to see dumb ass media folks are still around…

  17. I doubt he’ll be traded. I also noticed earlier this year that the times he wasn’t playing, the team did play better sometimes, and it’s happening again now, but with a different coach.

  18. Pretty sure my replies to that tweet were what finalllllly got me blocked by Cox, and believe me, I had been trying for a good few years.

  19. its funny cause there’s fans out there now who still agree with something like this. Yet if we were to lose 3 or 4 in a row they’d go back to complaining about marner/nylander. You can’t win with our fans.

  20. I mean not because of JT, or Willy, or Marner. But the return would be glorious. And it’s not like we’re giving up a game breaking playoff behemoth either.

  21. Nylander is already signed so’s Matthews. Marner will fetch a couple of players prospects and draft picks and free up 11 million in cap space.

  22. Or why not, try and trade Marner while he’s at peak value? The problem isn’t how good or bad the core is, the problem is that they’ve overspent on four of the same kind of players, and they can’t build a proper team around them. Pittsburgh is having the exact same problem right now–except, they’re a team in America (less spotlight), and they’ve actually won Cups.

  23. So you would trade the guy that scored 69 goals last year 🤔 not sure that’s a good plan 🤔
