For those who don’t know, Bader runs an “NHL equivalency” aka NHLe model that looks at point production from prospects adjusted for the league they play in as a way to project how players might contribute at the NHL level. These values are then compared with historical production from NHL players. As with any model, it is not perfect but provides one data point we can use to assess how a prospect is developing and at least is an interesting discussion starter for fans at home.
Cristall better bulk up. 5’ 10 165 is not NHL size. A year ago my son and I got to meet the entire Caps team in a bar just before the season started. Matthew Phillips looked incredibly out of place.
Am I the only one that still feels unsure about Parascak? I mean I understand he was runner up to rookie of the year in the WHL, but I feel like there were better options still on the board during the draft. I trust the system and the scouts, but we definitely left some talent on the board
Edit: I feel like his numbers were inflated by a great Cougars squad.
I was really impressed with Cristal in preseason.

Everything about Cristall has seemed positive so far. Lasting so long at camp this year, tearing up the WHL this year. His trajectory looks incredible.
Parascak will be interesting, hes another one whos skating needs to improve some, though weve seen our recent ability to do this. Reminds me of a Guenzel/Lafreniere type.
Have made some really good pipeline additions in recent years.
I can’t quite interpret everything on here, but looks decent from what I gather
Why draft player with good skating when player with bad skating will do?
What’s DY comps
Is WHL still the best league for Cristall? I wonder how much he can still be developing there. I thought it was typically 16-19 year olds and he’s turning 20 this season
Edit: oh guess he can’t join AHL til Jan 1 since he the year you turn 20 if you’re in the CHL. Do people think he’ll get transferred to the bears mid season?
With Parascak it reminds me of Protas, not the style of player, but the situation. Protas and Leason were both playing well going into Protas’ draft year, Leason the overaged prospect that suddenly had a good year, and they took both for insurance of one of them panning out. Parascak is the Protas in this situation and Zac Funk is Leason with a surprise year.
Parascak is now playing with a D+2 Heidt, and 2x overage Valis. It’s hard to tell if he’s the beneficiary of playing with overaged players his entire CHL career. I obviously don’t know shit. But I feel the sentiment of fellow Caps fans that felt like there were more options at 17th that felt like better bets than Parascak.
I assume the NHLe comp model doesn’t look at the age and quality of teammates, which makes me take this with a big grain of salt.
I’m less skeptical about Cristall. If anything, I think people are too low on him, I think the dude is going to be a rockstar

the comps for Cristall are insane. Draisaitl, Seguin, Spezza, Kucherov, Savard. If he’s even close to any of them, it’ll be a HUGE win.
