Who is Garrett Crochet? Reds, Cubs reportedly interested in trade for White Sox lefty
Dave Clark
Cincinnati Enquirer
Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet had 209 strikeouts in 146 innings in 2024 and was a first-time American League All-Star, making him one of the most sought-after young arms in MLB.
Jon Morosi reported Wednesday that the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs are among teams interested in Crochet, who posted a 6-12 record, 3.58 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 32 starts for the White Sox last season.
The Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles also have been mentioned in recent Crochet trade talks.

What to know about the 6-foot-6 Crochet, who turned 25 years old in June:
Crochet was a first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2020 MLB draft.
Crochet’s 5.9 WAR is the best among 2020 first-rounders.
One pick after the White Sox selected Crochet, the Reds took outfielder Austin Hendrick 12th overall.
Hendrick has yet to reach the majors. In 2024, he hit .188 with 173 strikeouts in 474 plate appearances for the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts.
Crochet made his big-league debut against the Reds at Great American Ball Park.
On September 18, 2020, in Cincinnati, Crochet struck out two of the three batters he faced in an inning of relief.
Two days later, he pitched another scoreless inning at GABP in his second career outing.
He made one start against the Reds last season, allowing five earned runs on four hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch with 10 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings in a 5-0 Cincinnati win in Chicago on April 13.
Crochet won the American League Comeback Player of the Year award in 2024. Crochet returned late in the 2023 season from extended rehab after undergoing Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2022 season.
He entered the 2024 season having tossed just 73 MLB innings over 72 relief appearances in three seasons.
Crochet didn’t have a start that lasted more than four innings after June 30, but last season alone, he doubled his total number of innings pitched between 2020 and 2023.
The White Sox have Crochet under team control through 2026.
Chicago could opt to hang onto Crochet, but their 2024 record of 41-121 suggests the White Sox need much more than the talented southpaw.
Crochet reportedly has made it known he wants a contract extension in the event that he’s traded.
Crochet earned $800,000 last season.

With Crochet, let’s see if the White Sox will package him with Luis Robert to get our RH OF!
Arroyo + Chase Petty + Stafura would get this done. Maybe Crochet + Robert for Candelario + Arroyo + Petty + Blake Dunn would be intriguing too
Don’t do this trade, The Reds are giving too much already, nooooo
Robert is too expensive and always hurts, we don’t know much about Crochet. This is like taking away Robert contract, and giving them too much prospects, all this years accumulated good prospects to
Give it up like that, this will be a
Big mistake
Hard pass.
Would be a great addition. I also think he's going to be had for a little cheaper than some people think.
Why would you be willing to deal Lowder for an “Ace” with an injury history, only two years of control, and was a 4-inning pitcher last year??? Crazy
Let's get Robert Jr., too.
