So I think there are too many player podcasts but I’m a big fan of Ticket & Truth because it reminds me of two dudes talking shit in the barbershop. In their latest episode, they had a segment on how they’d fix the Wizards. Paul said we need to change the culture, possibly fire the coach, and described our general situation as an embarrassment. KG said we simply don’t have enough talent to compete in the league. He said for the first time in his life, he’s seeing a team that is so bad he doesn’t believe they can beat any other team in the league. He said even Cooper Flagg won’t help our situation as it is. They didn’t even offer any solutions😭It was just a rumination on our hopelessness.
It seems we’re making our mark in national discourse by being historically awful. Have no fear though, I firmly believe we will be Emirates NBA Cup Champions by 2028.

They start talking about us from 30:30 and it goes on for a few minutes, switches to a quick sidebar on the Pels, then back to us in the context of the 2025 draft. All the relevant stuff for us ends at 39:00.

I mean, this franchise hasn’t won 50 games in a season since 1979.
“Try to fix” Oh!
“They didn’t offer any solutions” Oh.
Cool story fellas
Are we broken? I feel like they are exactly where they need to be in the middle of an all-in multi-year tank and finally out of the purgatory that is drafting 8-12 every year.
> KG said we simply don’t have enough talent to compete in the league
Ding ding ding. That’s the point, but it’s still true.
We need 4-5 more years of tanking and we need Dawkins to hit on talent in the draft. The frustrating thing is that they seem to only want to pick tall & long project players who are 2 years away from being 2 years away. We won’t know if they turn out to be good until Dawkins is on his second contract, which might be the point.
Wizards are in the beginning stages of a rebuild. I would be nice for either one of them to acknowledge that. This is a complete tear down by Winger/Dawkins. It’s gonna take time.
The sad thing is this team is just so unwatchable. The rookies and Bilal… have underwhelmed and there’s nothing to cheer for or hang your hat on through this miserable mess. I guess I enjoy seeing Poole be better? Seeing Kuzma play makes me want to stab my eyes out with an icepick.
I just can’t see recent draftees being the solution at all, nor anyone on the team. This tank is going to go on for a LONG time.
they are right insofar as it is a problem that none of the veterans who should be our stars seem interested in really making this *their* team. maybe it was all PR smoke and mirrors but when kuzma came here he seemed genuinely excited to mentor Avdija. regardless of how that turned out im not seeing any of that between him and Bilal or Sarr. and i’m sorry, but i just don’t think Jordan Poole has been playing halfway decent basketball lately because he wants to be here. i think he’s playing that way because he’s trying to get out
edit because i have more to say on this:
more than anything our young guys need some mentoring from someone who actually looks like they want to be around them and i dont think trying to acquire someone like that is a fundamental departure from the tank. getting a culture guy plus a few second rounders in exchange for JV should be a totally doable task for the Wizards FO, and IMO, if that means someone with no cartilage left in their knees, so be it. as long as they can be more or less available or at least engaged with our young guys when they aren’t it’s better than what we’ve currently got
KG also said Poole would average 30. They can’t blame the management for this, this is on Tommy Sheppard and ownership, we never had a chance in the past trading bigs for little guys, bad drafting from Ernie Grunfeld and Tommy. Imo Dawkins and crew are on the only track tearing it all down like every fan has asked for.
