After the first round was marked by more wrestling than most anticipated, the duo, who fought the summer of 2021, the second was a little more varied, with Volkov hurting Gane with a spinning backfist before the former interim champion rallied to have his own positive moments in the back half of the frame. They hit the canvas early in the third, with Gane hunting a kimura that never materialized, resulting in Volkov closing out the round in top position, landing short, annoying shots through to the horn.
When the final scores were announced, it was Gane that emerged victorious, much to his surprise and the disapproval of the audience inside T-Mobile Arena. Though he was not happy with his own performance, that’s now consecutive wins for “Bon Gamin,” who remains in the thick of the title chase heading into next year.
