USMNT and Milan forward Christian Pulisic is set to be sidelined until early January after sustaining a minor tear to a muscle in his right calf.
The 26-year-old was forced off in the 38th minute of Milan’s defeat at Atalanta on Friday and was replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Pulisic underwent a scan on Monday which revealed a low grade tear to the soleus muscle in his right calf. He is set to undergo another check up next week.
Milan are aiming for him to return for the Suppercoppa Italia, with Milan facing Juventus in the semi-finals in Riyadh on January 3.
The forward is set to miss Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Crvena Zvezda and the subsequent Serie A fixtures against Genoa, Verona and Roma.
“I think Loftus-Cheek played well off the bench. Pulisic had been having a great game but Ruben looked bright,” Milan manager Paulo Fonseca said at full time on Friday.
Pulisic has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Milan this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
Capped 76 times by the USMNT, he has registered two goals and two assists in three appearances under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Milan were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta thanks to an 87th-minute Ademola Lookman winner, after an Alvaro Morata goal had cancelled out Charles De Ketelaere’s opener in the first half.
The defeat leaves Fonseca’s side seventh in Serie A, 12 points behind league leaders Atalanta.
