The crowd at the ‘World’s most famous arena’ thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment the two provided on Wednesday night.
Alcaraz and Shelton showed why they are two of the most fun players to watch on the ATP Tour following pulsating rallies and impressive shotmaking.
They certainly put on a show inNew York, and a rumour has since circulated regarding how much they were paid for their services.

The sold-out crowd was thoroughly entertained by the action on court, as a match tiebreak was needed to separate Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton.
Shelton won the first set, before Alcaraz proceeded to win the second set and send the match into a deciding set tiebreak. It was Alcaraz who prevailed 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 and lifted a gold trophy during the post-match ceremony.
On the same evening, 2024’s most improved player of the year Emma Navarro, defeated US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula 7-6, 7-5.

For anyone wondering how much they were paid to play an exhibition match at Madison Square Garden, Caitlin Thompson from the Rennae Stubbs podcast shared some insight.
“The rumour is that it is between $1 and $2 million, guaranteed,” she said. “I have heard as much as $2 million.
“I heard Jess and Emma got $100,000 and Ben got anywhere between $200,000 to $500,000. I have heard from a couple of different sources.”
What other exhibition match has Carlos Alcaraz played recently?
Two days after facing Shelton at Madison Square Garden, Alcaraz flew to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Frances Tiafoe. The three-time Grand Slam champion began the match well, winning a tight first set.
But Tiafoe, wearing a NBA Charlotte Hornets jersey for the home crowd, stormed back to win set two for the loss of just one game.
The deciding match tiebreak was close, but Tiafoe edged it and beat Alcaraz 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) to claim victory on home soil.
On that same night, Sloane Stephens took on Madison Keys in a battle of the Americans, with the latter winning 7-5, 6-3.
