Mets-owned AAA Syracuse and High-A Brooklyn sold, but staying affiliated. https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/capital-region/sports/2024/12/10/syracuse-mets-new-ownership#:~:text=Diamond%20Baseball%20Holdings%2C%20which%20owns,DBH%20said%20in%20a%20statement.

Edit: No, I don’t actually think this is why they sold. But the timing is hilarious. And Mets.

  1. The article says the teams are being bought with Cohen private ventures, so it’s kinda just getting a part owner

  2. Yes, the team with the owner worth 20 billion dollars was forced to sell the farm to afford Soto.

The actual story here is Diamond Baseball Holdings has been buying minor league teams at a crazy rate these last couple years and have been offering above market value.

DBH probably thinks they can make a good amount of money having these minor league teams and owners only care about having the farm system rights since a majority of money comes from the major league team itself and deals associated with it.

Basically, DBH is willing to own a lot of minor league teams and focus on that as an avenue of making money while the owners still reap the benefits.

  3. Genuinely curious, do you stand by the title of this post now that others have explained the article to you?

  4. If Cohen needed the money I think he would sell some of his stupid fucking pieces of “art” he owns before the teams.

  5. Mets overpay for Soto and their fans get a stick up their ass at the same time, who knew? It was obviously a joke. Yes, we all know Cohen is worth 20B and he can afford the contract.
