it's expected buy why does it hurt
God the pitching money is crazy. How are the Braves gonna get starting pitching at this price
Braves fucked up
It will be interesting to see how Max reacts to the aggressive Yankee fans. If he starts the year like he did with us in 2024, he will be booed endlessly.
Sports contracts are becoming catastrophically out of hand.
As a lifelong Braves fan I am going to miss seeing Max pitch in a Braves uniform! Wish that he re-signed with Atlanta because he helped us win the 2021 World Series and he also pitched the Game 6 clincher in the 2021 World Series! I wish Max nothing but the best with the Yankees! His returns to Atlanta are going to be very emotional for all of us Braves fans! I was really hoping to go to a Braves game and see Max pitch in a Braves uniform before we lost him in free agency! I'm very disappointed and mad at AA for letting Max walk in free agency! AA is an asshole for letting Max walk via free agency to the Yankees! AA is also an asshole for also letting Freddie and Dansby walk via free agency in 2021 and 2022 respectively! A lot of Braves fans are very mad at you right now AA for letting Max walk! AA is so close to being on my worst GMs/executives list for letting Max walk! I bet a lot of Braves fans won't be at many of the games next year because they all wanted to see Max still pitch in a Braves uniform! Truist Park isn't going to have as many sellouts next year as they did last year because we all just wanted to see Max still pitching for the Braves and the Braves gave Max an opportunity to get to the big leagues! Max was the ace of our pitching staff! I wish that Max could've won a Cy Young and throw a no hitter with us when Max was so close to throwing a no hitter with us! Thank you for everything Max! You will be deeply missed in the ATL! The Braves will miss you Max! You will forever be an Atlanta sports legend! Max will forever be a Braves legend! Even though you have moved on to the Yankees we still love you! I wish you nothing but the best with the Yankees Max!
I view max’s signing more like dansby’s than Freddie’s. A guy who priced himself out of Atlanta rather than a guy who his agent, or himself, wanted in a bigger market in LA. No ill will thank you Max and enjoy NYC and that BAG you earned.
sad to see max go, but i am happy he got his pay day
Dear Jake great show as per the usual. Certainly last imprints of Max will be the Dominant Game 6 Performance, and "The Walk Off"…yes totally get rid of the DH. I mentioned it in your last program that those really awesome moments in baseball wont happen again. But Did you really just "half way" throw Max under the bus? I refer to his not so good start in the Post Season…Pretty sure he went out short rest, and only as a last resort to give the Braves the best chance of winning. The pitching was depleted/imploded on itself by that point in year. And you had a guy in Max Fried try to rise to the occassion. Yeah was a bad start. However his 2024 self mignt have been one of his best regular seasons ever. He almost had a few perfect games, went at least 7inning in most or all his starts, he had the dominance of Game 6 all year. Minus the bad start, buttttt…How did he come back from the bad start?? Lights out bro. Hes an amazing pitcher.
The David O’Brien tweet regarding Taylor Ward is the perfect microcosm of the Braves off-season. At this rate, they will just resign Charlie and pray that people will progress and stay healthy.
Max Fried was a great pitcher.
Sad to see him go but not surprised either.
Baseball now is all about one thing money.
No longer have any Chipper Jones,
Cal Ripken,
Derrick Jeter,
All of these played with the same team their whole career.
All 3 class acts and HOF players.
Sad to see him go he pitched some real gems this year. I hope someone steps up from all those pitchers the Braves keep drafting
Braves are a real team not just about spending money 💰
People thought he'd go to the Dodgers, well, so much for that, and so much for him as a Brave.
Even if we were in the mix for Eovaldi, making him leave hometown Texas was probably gonna cost more money. The Braves weren't gonna beat that, especially considering it ended up being a 3-year deal.
Im going to be real honest. I love the players we have but in the past few years I have stopped being a fan of this organization. I don't like the way its being run, I don't feel like they particularly care about their players or their fans. I think everything is a math problem to AA and I think they are going to waste the rest of this playoff window with half measures and non-committal. I also suspect that Atlanta probably is earning a bad reputation with agents and probably some players because they only sign cheap or team friendly deals and they don't seem to have any desire to overpay a bit even to keep a fan favorite player, which even small market teams like the Mariners will do.
Could you imagine if AA was the GM when we were kids? Chipper wouldn't be a career Brave. Maddux probably doesn't get extended past the initial 5 year contract and he's probably a Yankee in 1998. Most importantly there's probably WAY less Braves fans today because I can't speak for anyone else but a big part of why I became a lifelong Braves fan long after I stopped caring about other professional sports is because I grew up with those guys as my heros. Freddy Freeman was this generation's Chipper Jones and they let him go. Sorry, it's not Scott Boras' fault. AA could have just given him the extra year he wanted. God forbid you have to keep a beloved franchise hero who kept fans in seats for years while the club was terrible for an extra year past his prime!
The Braves are not going to trade for an outfielder unless it's someone disposable who's a 4th outfielder type of guy on a cheap, short term deal. Look at all the trouble they went through to get Kelenic. They obviously believed strongly in him and while im sure that has eroded some after last season they are NOT going to just give up on him after only one season. Especially a season where the whole offense was down and not just him.
Cheap ass franchise. Imagine if Arthur Blank owned the Braves. Imagine if the Falcons had the Braves front office.
Atlanta sports, they cannot put 2 and 2 together
And Huascar Ynoa is off the board.
One thing I need help understanding is why AA can sign Charlie Morton to pitch his 38-41 seasons at essentially $18,000,000/year but can’t pay Fried and additional $9,000,000/year to pitch UP TO his age 38 season. Hell, he paid a 35 year old Chris Sale $19,000,000/year and he had been legitimately “injury prone” for A LOT of his career. I understand $27,000,000 is considerably more than what Sale and Morton got but Fried is MUCH younger than they were at the time they signed their contracts and he IS A BRAVE. Help make it make sense, please. Thanks for the content
It’s painful to be a brave fan !!! They never spend money !!!
what a joke. this team is playing checkers while a handful of others are playing chess. please change ownership groups with whoever owns the dodgers
He’s injury prone of all those years he might only play 5
Heckuva pitcher. We enjoyed your time with us. Best of luck Max!
Mike Tauchman was a 17 DRS, 9.8 UZR/150, 10 OAA defensive outfielder in left field in 1001 innings. So between that and being an above average offensive hitter at the price he got, I think it's a very good deal. But I understand him wanting to possibly stay local, as he's an Illinois native.
I’m glad he’s gone. Not a true #1 or #2 (he’s not even a #3 starter). He can tank for someone else now.
His best years are behind him…
H~
Will always think fondly of Max Fried and so grateful for his performance in game 6 in 2021. Sorry, but 8 years and that money just doesn’t make sense to me, especially for a pitcher. He has been a disappointment in the post season for the last 3 years and has an injury issue yearly. So, I wish him the best and as a NYer whose best friend’s son works for the Yanks I’ll still follow him closely. After Freddie left, I will not let myself get upset with the comings and goings of these players.
Bro, please stop saying "a" in front of everybody's name! It's not "A" Kyle Tucker. There aren't 3 or 4 people named Kyle Tucker in the bigs. It's either "a player like Kyle Tucker" or it's Kyle Tucker. I know it's a sports thing but it's annoying and it makes you look uneducated, and as a journalist I can't believe that's what you're going for.
I'm sorry if this comes off harsh, but I've been an everdayer for years – since you started – and you've come a long way. I know you've made adjustments and taken pointers from others like Grant and Crosby and others, so I know you're not too proud to take advice, so I hope you take this as advice.
Peace.
Didn't Ynoa come over from the Twins in a trade way back?
We are goin to lose all home grown players, im tired of it honestly that this team diesnt put up money to keep players or sign players. Im pretty sick of it, here in a few years acuna will be gone, harris eill be gone in a few years, just pretty much sick of it period!!!
I honestly dont think max will be there the whole 8 years.
Gross overpay, but it's the Yankees.
Not the Braves. They make money but they don't spend. Poverty team.
