I did not go and enjoy some Devils’ hockey.

Should’ve won that game.
I think moneypuck is a great tool, but I don’t think you can correctly analyze a game by taking a look at the deserve to win meter and calling it a day, which I see happening quite a lot in this sub. For example, MP has [gives Boston the deserve to win advantage in their 1-8 loss to the Jets](https://moneypuck.com/g.htm?id=2024020452), but ask any Bruins fan how that game went and it’s clear, total domination by the Jets (and I’ve heard enough about this since my roommate from Boston was fuming last night).
If you break down the loss last night, I think you can look at the shot totals and feel cheated. I’m not denying that the Devils were the better team but I don’t think the margin is as wide as 90/10 in our favor via the deserve to win meter. Breaking down the shots, a lot of the Devils’ shots were low quality, even ones classified as high danger chances. The guys are peppering Stolarz, but they’re sending pucks towards the pads and chest, and aren’t doing the simple things like screening the goalie, lifting the puck in the air, and taking shots from the slot. If you don’t do any of those things, most goalies in the league can stop your shots, hence why we’ve been getting “goalied” way too much recently.
I love the way the team is playing for the most part, but you’re lying to yourself if you think they truly deserved to win last night with all of the missing details on their shots. Offense needs to improve, despite it looking good on paper.
A timely save would have been nice
I’m feeling more positive about this team after a night’s sleep. We are finally playing consistent defense in our own end. Yeah there will be the odd breakdown but in general teams are finding very difficult to score against us for the last several games. We just don’t have our scoring touch. Once the goal scorers heat up again we are poised for a run.
Easy one to brush off. Good performance by their goalie made for a bad result. Need a little more finishing and wins at home badly, got a couple more games here to make it right.
Imagine getting 5 past shesterkin and only getting 1 past blackwood/wedgewood/stolarz….total.
Thatd be crazy right…..
Ok, kuemper never played here and isn’t from here. Should be a guaranteed dub.
Yes Markstrom allowed 2 goals on 16 shots. Not ideal but a lot of the shots Toronto got were high danger. I’m more concerned with our inability to finish as it has been a trend for years with this team. Nico Bratt and Jack all had breakaway chances to give us our 2nd goal and none of them converted. We’ve been getting nothing from our 3rd and 4th lines lately. Not winning many games when we’re struggling to score
It was a frustrating game that they should have won but at least they got a point. Still can’t really bring myself to blame Markstrom when they only scored 1 goal. Hopefully the offense explodes soon after 2 very very quiet games in terms of finishing. Just as depressing are some of the takes after that game. Really hard to read. You would think this was a team not in a playoff spot right now..
Last night reminded me that this is how hockey goes sometimes. Great effort doesn’t always match the score.
I think it’s a little crazy how fans blame a loss like this solely on the goalie. At the end of the day, Markstrom gave up one goal in regulation. If he gave up the goal on literally *any other shot*, fans would be focusing on the real issue at hand: how are the Devils coming up empty so often offensively, even when they’re massively outplaying opponents?
Are the Devils due for a positive regression in shooting percentage? Too many play-makers and not enough finishers? Lack of secondary scoring? The team is playing excellent hockey overall, it’s just a weird trend to see them do everything except putting the puck in the net.
One more random note: I’m not surprised at all by the Leafs’ shorthanded chances last night. They are notoriously a super-aggressive team on the PK where they constantly pressure the puck carrier and will play all their top scorers. It’s annoying when they do it against the Devils, but man I love watching their PK with that strategy.
New worst loss just dropped
We’re due for a non-frustrating game.
Very frustrating 2 games in a row.
Keefe called it our best game of the season so far. Jokes on all you whiners. 🤡

Should’ve won. Flukey loss against a real contender. At least we got a point out of it
twitter has a point, if Dillon just pulled paches into the bench and started whaling on him and get turbofucked by the refs, people can complain about something else than the team being soft
ESPN’s “The Rush” was pretty cool but I do wish they’d use that audio the whole game, but use mostly the overhead cam. The Rush is all about the audio, the camera angles are cool, but you can’t see shit!
