Wow. Are we actually hoping for a lockout after 2026 to try to get some handle on spending? Is that the only hope for small and mid market teams?
This is why MLB needs a salary cap.
Billionaires crying poor while treating their teams like private equity investments to strip down for cash are what is ruining baseball. Nice try though!
No baseball player on earth is worth 3/4 of a billion dollars. Not Elly, not Juan Soto, not even Babe Ruth. Mets are going to find out the hard way.
Soto didn’t ruin anything. Elly was not going to be a Red after his rookie contract and anyone who thought otherwise was fooling themselves. It’s not even a money issue either. He’s on record multiple times saying how much he loves playing in LA
We all knew there was no chance in hell Elly was going to be here after 2029 well before Soto.
If you thought this ownership group was going to retain Elly once he hit the market you weren’t paying attention in the first place
Got to win while he’s here. That’s a long time away.
Hopefully there will be a salary cap by the time Elly is a FA.
If the Reds start winning then maybe Elly, McClain etc will what to stay together. I mean why not? Let’s put together a dynasty. If these young guys all hit then maybe we get a Big Red Machine 2.0? Yes this is a 1/100 chance of happening but I’m just saying, this is the only way he stays.
