He wasn’t a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. Travis Hunter has now won two others.
The Colorado two/way superstar is the recipient of both the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Fred Biletnikoff Award.
That makes him both the best defensive player in college football, and the best receiver in college football.
Bednarik was one of the NFL’s last true two-way players, a linebacker and a center for the Eagles from 1949 through 1962.
Next up for Hunter could be (and arguably should be) the Heisman Trophy, given to the best player in all of college football. Even if he doesn’t get it, the fact that he wasn’t in the running for the Thorpe Award looks even more ridiculous than it did when the finalists were named.
