  1. Lol we currently have 3 starters for 2025 (King, Cease, Darvish) why on any planet would we give one of them up

  2. I mean, if ownership no longer wants to invest, blow it all up and trade off everyone. Full fire sale.

  3. This is what happens when you have multiple declining players costing 30+ mil a year and don’t want to be the dodgers. And we blew up the farm for that shit. We don’t have pitching. Love we’re just giving up after the city went fucking ham this past few years

  4. im fine with this, trade for sum role players. Cease showed us he can’t perform when we need him this postseason.

  5. Trade cease for a shit ton of prospects then flip then down the line for a good amount of mlb level pitching

  6. And I thought the days of the “penny-pinching Padres” were over. They just rebranded themselves as “contending”.

    I miss Peter.

  7. In my darkest thoughts I worry that as soon as Peter passed we’d go back to mid. I’m not seeing anything that’s super soothing that worry for the years to come.

  8. If we’re going to trade Cease, we need pitching back, don’t we?

I trust Niebla and AJ, but it doesn’t feel like BAL matches well with what we need as a trade partner.

  9. Why the hell are we trading a pitcher when we…checks notes…need pitchers to compete with the Dodgers.

  10. Only reason I’m not gonna lose my sh*t here is that AJ is a magician and is obviously playing 3D chess and will somehow flip Cease into multiple quality players we can actually afford and bring us back stronger in 2025 (a la Soto last year)…. please!!!!!

  11. I’d kind of hate to lose Cease. He is young, and more importantly a horse who has made 30 plus starts four seasons running. He usually gives you a good chance to win. I was hoping we would sign him to a longer term deal before he hits free agency next.

  12. Cease didn’t really show up till the all star break right? And that had a string of bad starts to end the year. Lots of potential but so risky to keep

  13. Im concerned we are never signing anyone again. Last season arguably was fluky, a lot went right.

    Man, this sucks.

  14. Looks like front end pitching is at a premium so imagine Cease will get a decent hall as a one year rental yet nothing over the top. Look for a fair deal if it happens.

Also frees up 25M yet creates another huge hole in rotation. That’s a huge problem. Plus banking on Yu to log in a full productive season is dicey. He’s had a bunch of seasons either running out of gas or needs time off mid season. Cease is a work horse. Let’s see how AJ works this.

Also it’s anyones guess on who gets Roki yet trading Cease isn’t a great look and hard to sell it as one.

  15. Cease is a FA after this upcoming season. Always willing to listen to trade offers if it is the right return
