Potential Defensive Alignment if Padres lose out on Profar

  1. Tirso Ornelas had a solid season at Triple-A nonetheless, slashing .297/.367/.497 with 23 home runs and a below-average strikeout rate of 16.1%. The 24-year-old has carried over that success into the Mexican Winter League while playing for the Charros de Jalisco. San Diego’s 17th-ranked prospect is slashing .314/.419/.524 with five home runs and seven stolen bases in 30 games (124 PA).

  2. It’s funny how spoiled we’ve become. I mean I’m the first one to feel entitled after supporting garbage rosters my whole life, but man this roster as it is can still be pretty good.

  3. I guess it’s an unpopular opinion but that’s a pretty solid lineup if Xander plays like he did in 2023.

There will be veterans they can add (Ty France types) to fill in the gaps.

I feel like Padres are going to go all in on trading Cronenworth this offsesson, too.

  4. Honestly deflated by the statements coming out.

Ownership needs to let Preller do what he can but flipping our only SPs just seems to be the wrong move. You can have a good offense and lose with bad pitching. What’s the point in supporting the team if they aren’t even trying?

  5. I’d love to retain Profar, but there is clearly a number that we’re just not going to exceed for him. Obviously, Tirso is a risk to pencil in as your everyday LF, but he has put up consistent good numbers in AAA, you can at least have him compete for the job in Spring Training. Eguy would be a great DH option vs. LHP, and potentially vs. RHP. Just remember, we had very similar questions coming into last season at CF, LF, SP, and C. AJ addressed all of those problems and he will do the same this season, KTF!

  6. Remember when Graham Pauley was our opening day 3rd baseman last year?

There’s no scenario that Tirso is our LF in late April, unless of course he just rakes all of ST and the start of the year

  7. If this were the final starting roster, you’d need Eguy at 2B, Jake at 1B and Arraez at DH on account of Eguy being a good fielder and Arraez not

  8. I mean it sucks we’re not in on all names but Peter locked a core up that while handcuffs us a bit atleast we kept our stars and have a really solid core for the long term. We are relevant and have a shot at playoffs annually, personally I’d only say sky is falling if there was another fire sale.

  9. I am hoping that Tirso is a secret sleeper for Rookie of the Year in 2025. But something has to be done about Campy and Rosario. No way can they be the starters for those positions shown. Obviously things will change but holy heck is that a disheartening graphic.
