Hi all, I posted this in a comment of the Free Talk Thread yesterday and had it reccomended that I give it it's own post.

We ended up wrapping up our initial top-32 for the upcoming draft last week with a handful of honorable mentions. As of now, this class isn't looking as strong as we once hoped it would, but it's a particularly Center-heavy class with a litany of atypical prospects who could provide some great value in the late first/early second

  1. I am curious about Ryabkin… the way they are saying stuff, maybe we can get him later in the draft, and get him playing. Maybe even they will let him come over early if they really arent a fan of the kid

  2. This is the lowest I’ve seen Caleb Desnoyers (8 of 12 rankings on Elite Prospects have him in the 8-12 range). The blurb is also more critical of his offensive upside than I’ve seen other places. Desnoyers is currently first in the QMJHL in points per game and is the best player on the best team.

Desnoyers has been a player I’ve thought the Flyers would target. He’s hard working, plays the game with pace and intelligence, and I think has a good offensive upside even if these guys aren’t as keen on him, and this is before the family connection (he’s Eliot Desnoyers brother).

He’s not all that different from Jett Luchanko in his draft year, their offensive game is a little under developed even though they both put up points. Both great playmakers, hardworking, and intelligent. Luchanko is an elite skater so he has the edge there, while Desnoyers has size, physicality, and a better shot. One other point of difference is that Luchanko was the best player on a bad team, while Desnoyers is the best player and focal point of a great team with eyes not only on a Q championship but the Memorial Cup.

I’m interested to see where he goes, the QMJHL hasn’t produced a first rounder in two years so there may be a little more trepidation taking a Q player. But I could also see Desnoyers being the type of guy the Flyers use their wealth of picks in this draft to trade up a few spots to get if they end up picking in the 15-18 range and Desnoyers goes in the 11-14 range.

  3. Trade Risto for a 1st or 2nd and then draft 7 centers in the first 45 picks of the draft, or trade picks plus Farabee/Forester/Brink for one of Cozens, Zegras, Rossi, and still draft as many centers as you can.
