The Dodgers were on the ropes until their bullpen flipped a switch and went into beast mode, shutting down the Padres, Mets, and Yankees. Although they certainly deserve credit for their win, they should be concerned about how close they came to losing. The lift they got from their bullpen put wind in the sails of their offense. It's a game of flow and momentum!
The Padres must do their best to get good value for Cease and Arraez in trades. I agree with your ideas, Javier. Mountcastle and Kjerstad would be decent. Crone for relief or bench value would also be okay, assuming they try to stretch out Morejon, Hoeing, or someone else. Maybe even trade Suarez, if you want to make Estrada the closer.
Campusano is a DH in catcher's gear. I hope he gets it together and learns to play 1B or LF.
Honestly I think the best thing the padres can do this offseason is finally get back into a tv deal. If we’re hampered by money that right there would solve a ton of problems. I don’t get why we haven’t done so yet. I guarantee you can get one from even Amazon or Netflix if you want.
Why all the talk about the Padres not able to afford players?
From what I see the Padres are doing just fine as a well run organization sufficiently funded by Petco and the fan support that produces regular sellouts. The Padres are probably the envy of every club but a tiny handful for the Padres' ability to maintain a MLB payroll at or around the first competitive tax threshold every year and still do all the things that aren't controlled by MLB to improve their product like the Padres' Dominican operations and the pitching research facility in Pt Loma both of which are not typical of other clubs
Players strongly consider playing for the Padres because the club does more than other clubs to help them play well. It's no accident players want to come to San Diego even if they might know they might stay long because a lot of players leave San Diego and excel somewhere else, and other clubs realize that, too. This past year the front half of the Kansas City pitching rotation came from free agents who benefitted from their year in San Diego and fueled a run to the playoffs.
Word gets around but perhaps not to some fans.
San Diego is a great place to play baseball and the payroll is near the top in MLB
The only position where AJ should acted sooner was catcher. All the decent ones have already been signed and they haven't really been that expensive.
More I hear these trades, the more I see a hole in our rotation. Keep him. Teach Kim to play catcher lol jk bout that. But yeah, keep cease.
I like Morejon and Perez in the starting six we need more lefties because of Shohei Ohtani
LA broke this team’s spirit so much they looking to trade Dylan Cease
