I think it’s entirely possible we see this high octane, killer instinct, sniper ep40 once again. IMO it’s a confidence thing working under systems issue that Tochetts style doesn’t allow for this style. Not saying that’s a bad thing, obviously the Canucks are a more successful team under Toch. Petey just needs to find that finesse between the killer instinct and being accountable to get back, play both ways and dig in and fight for pucks. I believe! Go Nucks! GO PETEY!

  1. Sorry couldnt watch, I cant stop rewinding it to the first few seconds to keep hearing “at the top bar” in the most quintessential Canadian hockey accent I may have ever heard outside of satire, including every dipshit with a wad of copenhagen hanging out their bottom lip that I grew up with.

At the top bAehR. At the top berrr. I can’t stop. Who is that announcing?

  2. Honestly I think he just needs to shoot the puck more.. hell I think the whole team needs to shoot more

  3. There’s a really noticeable difference in his speed. He used to be a much faster skater, I think.

  4. Well the offence doesn’t feel as there, his defensive game has been unreal. If you want to criticize one side of it you gotta acknowledge the other

when he has time and space, his wrist shot is unstoppable

I’ve been saying, there’s just something different now, you give him time and space he doesn’t do these things anymore. He had a similar play yesterday, yes he did have to get it on his backhand, but he’s always been a load up and take advantage of the time and snipe it kind of guy but instead yesterday he just stuffs it into the pads.

Say whatever you want, call me a Petey hater, say I don’t watch the game, but the current Petey still isn’t even close to the dominant Petey we used to see. His level of decisiveness he used to have just isn’t there.

  6. Tocchet’s system is the reason Petey can’t snipe top shelf? More likely the reason Petey isn’t sniping like he used to is because he’s still feeling the effects of tendonitis which doesn’t allow him to shoot the puck as effectively as he did before.

  7. He’s def not at that level yet but he really picked it up (lagging a bit now maybe) but still think he’ll there. I’m hoping we can have a nice second half otherwise start to get worried lol that’s 1.5 seasons…of at best in consistent spurts. Not saying trade him or anything, just…

  8. This post is by no means a anti-EP40 post I’m just saying I think we could still see 100pt+ season out of this guy, despite him being more of defensive player lately.

  9. Man I know shit has fucked up with Petey. But I actually cant think of a single moment this season where he’s pulled off some absolute stupid shenanigans like shown here. Idk if its confidence or his knee still or the system or what. But he doesn’t look half of what he was in these highlights.

  10. its just not him anymore, dont know why or what happened, but that isnt the petey we have or probably will have ever again. Maybe it was the wrist injuries, maybe it was just such a big stress and weight on his shoulders getting the big contract. Regardless, hes still good and plays exceptional defensely. He cant skate thru or deke thru players anymore and his shot is not even close to what it used to be. I dont think hes ever gonna exclipse 90+ again unfortunately, But i sure hope he proves me wrong.

  11. I think the Pettersson we saw last season, being invisible for so long, was at a time where the full extent of his injuries and how much they will affect him was dawning on him. It must have been horrible knowing that your skating and shooting abilities have been crippled. I pray that his skating goes back to what it once was, because it’s honestly depressing seeing him play live and skate so slow.

  12. – high draft pick puts up lots of points
    – teams game plan against player
    – player finds ways to contribute in different ways

It’s blatantly obvious how other teams have taken away his shot, especially on the PP. Same thing happened to Boeser. Knee problems slow u down and other teams challenge your shot. So you evolve your play making and two way ability.

  13. Losing his speed is a bummer but it’s not really my main concern, Boeser isn’t very fast and not only potted 40 last year but carried us in the first round. The guy has one of the most lethal shots in the league and we haven’t seen it once this year. Not sure why Tocchet hasn’t tried to reinvigorate his once deadly snipe, he used to be a force of nature on the pp.

  14. I miss when our team was allowed to celebrate scoring lol. Only the new guys even crack a smile when they score. Half the fun of watching the team play is seeing the joy they get out of playing well. Even when we win these days my emotions feel muted.
