This has gotten ridiculous – Would love to know the true cost to the Mets.

Besides a suite at Citi Field for 15 years, he also threw in 22 (for Soto’s number) Delta Club premium seats, security people for both him and his entire family home and away, and it is said, but not confirmed, the “family services” clause in the contract includes charter flights for his family to road games and a clothes allowance for his mother!

  1. Apparently it’s worth it to Steve Cohen. I don’t get it. If I’m paying you $765 million, you should be able to take care of your mom.

  2. And people think Yankees fans are mad they didn’t get him ? Seems like a problem for the future in more ways than Juan.

  3. The back end of that contract is going to fucking suck for them so hard. He can opt out in 5 years but if he was to get a nagging injury that robs him of his already limited mobility that effectively makes him an even a league average hitter…damn.

There are generation players that you almost can’t pay enough for the impact on the team, league, pop culture etc and he ain’t one of those guys. Good for him for getting it but he isn’t worth all that. I’m glad my team didn’t sign him. But I have look at him in the division again.

  4. Mets fans will still be trying to figure out why prices on everything are raised. This is getting crazy and it will be the fans that pay one way or another.

  5. Wow Dominican moms be doing the most

Juan: hola mai they’re going to give me $750 mill! Isn’t that great?

Mom: Aye Juanito but what about my shopping?? You don’t love me!!

  6. I get the feeling Soto was laughing his ass off to see all the various ways he could make Cohen prostrate himself. I bet half of these requests were made up silly shit just to see what they would say. He’s a Met because the Yankees wouldn’t entertain that nonsense.

  7. If they win a World Series or 2 before his decline into a full time DH. Mets fans are going to say it was all worth it. And I don’t blame them.

  8. Ideal best case scenario for Mets fans from dumping all this money into Soto is consistently finishing behind the Braves or Phillies in the division for the next few years maybe making a couple more wild card runs and then being irrelevant for the last 10 years of his contract while he sucks the organization dry w all this BS. Abysmal organization management

  9. I really don’t think the clothes allowance or the flights or even the suite are really that ridiculous in the grand scheme of sports contracts. Tim Duncan famously didn’t go to Orlando because they wouldn’t let his family fly on the team jet, Rougned Odor and Troy Glaus got horses, A-Rod’s contract stipulated he had to be the highest payed player in the league, George Brett was given an apartment complex, and Mario Lemieux was payed in ownership shares of the Penguins. A couple tickets and transportation to and from games for his family isn’t that weird a request.

  10. Imagine you’re in negotiations and you lose Soto because you won’t give him or his family security, or premium seats? These perks seem outrageous but they are mere trivialities based on the size of the contract and are insignificant reasons to lose out on signing him.

  11. Are Yankee fans ever going to move on? It’s getting pathetic at this point. You guys offered an insane contract as well. You lost. Please stop crying. It’s annoying.

  12. I thought if I played and asked for something extra in my contract ….season tix to whatever nhl team it was in the city I played in was …seems not so big of a deal….but provide security for your family….pretty sure with the scratch they just gave u, there’s plenty of former military/contractors you could hire yourself…..

  13. You ever wonder what a player …say…Micky Mantle asked for in his contract….maybe the club always have a bucket of ice and beer in the locker room after every game….oh have the times…and the game…have changed

  14. No one cares about the perks once they start playing ball. People need to get off their high horse. He’s a Met and Cohen doesn’t care about the money. It’s silly for Yankees fans (I’m one) to now care about the spending problem in baseball.

  15. Imagine caring this much about what two people agreed to in a contract that has nothing to do with you. This is pathetic LDE.

  16. This is actually insane. Welp good luck Met fans. Hope this doesn’t become a headache in 5 years

  17. I would not have made a good MLB owner. The minute somebody asked for a clothes allowance for their mother, on top of the $750 million I just offered them, the only “security” they would have seen is the security I would have had thrown their ass the fuck out of my office.

  18. Nothing like preferential treatment and offerings that don’t exist for any other player on the team. Especially when you’re not the best baseball player on that team. A preposterous overpay in salary is one thing. But handing out a suite and beyond is not going to bode well for the team and will open a world of possibilities in negotiations for future stars.
