Yankees have traded Jose Trevino to the Reds for Fernando Cruz and Alex Jackson

  1. Cruz wasn’t as good as he could be. I like this move. Our bullpen needed work regardless and hopefully there is some moves there to be made along with our OF situation

  2. Cruz is going to get his tits lit next year. Getting the backup catcher they needed for him is a good move.

  3. Love it.  Very good defensive catcher.  One year left on his deal, so no longer term commitment.  They can still poke around for a prospect in trade to develop and help bridge to Duno.

Need to find the dude from the other day who told me the Yankees wouldn’t trade Trevino and get my gloat on.

  4. Sat behind fernandos family when they finally got to come see him pitch at GABP. Good people. Appreciate the services fernando

  5. Not sure how much Fernando has left in the tank. Glad we were able to get something for him.

  6. HELL YEA.

Trevino unironically is one of the best defensive Cs in baseball. He frames at an elite level, he works with staffs at an elite level. He does things outside of what is immediately quantifiable. He unironically might be worth 5 wins on his own next year. HG locked in for Cy Young in 2025.

Cruz is 35. 4 years of tc does not matter for him. He relies entirely on his stuff, and his fb was borderline unplayable last year.

Jackson was an interesting C that I liked a lot. I had him penciled in as the backup. With Trevino, he became extra insurance, so it makes sense he was moved.

The important thing to remember for next year is that Trevino’s value isn’t in his offense. He’s a defensive specialist, and he’s going to make the pitching staff MUCH better. Keep that in mind before complaining about why the Reds are starting or playing him.

  7. I like this trade for what it is. A very good defensive backup catcher (won the Platinum Glove in 2022) in exchange for a 35 year old solid-to-decent reliever.

Small move to move the team forward.

  8. Cruz was my favorite Red, and I’m sad to see him go. Great dude, amazing story…

That said, if he pitches like he did the second half of the season, he’s not gonna last in the Bronx. #SplitterOrDie #SometimesBoth

  9. Hope you guys don’t mind a Yankee fan popping in to let you know what I saw from Trevino the last few years.

First of all, great guy, by all accounts loved by his teammates and the fans. Had some ups and downs with the bat but had a knack for clutch hits. He’s not gonna walk but won’t K much either.

Brilliant pitch framing and blocking the ball. Pitchers all loved him. To my eye, first 2 years with us he had a solid, accurate arm and threw plenty of guys out. This season something happened though. He had a water pistol all season and teams picked up on it and ran wild against him whenever he was behind the plate. I’m talking embarrassingly and unplayably bad. I’m hoping it was dead arm or injury or something but it lasted all season. No idea what it was and no injury was ever disclosed to my knowledge.

A random sicko note that I picked up on from watching way too much baseball. He can NOT lay off a high pitch lol. You probably won’t believe me, but teams even started throwing him sliders like shoulder high let alone fastballs once they got the scout. Always drove me crazy but he’d foul em off.

I hope he gets his arm strength back and ends up with another platinum glove to his name with you guys. Has the bat to ball skills at the plate to sneak some balls through and hit 250ish again and will certainly put the ball in play with a man on 3rd. I wish him the best in Cincinnati. Merry Christmas everyone.

  10. I like him that’s cool but relying on pitching to win games at GABP sucks and when it backfires it’s really miserable. Please get real actual big league hitters as well
