I remember when we wore the cream uniforms a few years back but why exactly did we?
Also, when did we start putting the tomahawk under the Braves logo? The tomahawk has been used under the logo at times and others not.

  1. They used to be the Sunday home jersey but now with Nike you can only have 4 + city connect so we don’t have it anymore. Also, if you remember the blue ones used to say Atlanta in blue instead of red which I didn’t realize was ugly until I saw it with the red letters

  2. The cream jerseys are based on the home jersey worn by the last Milwaukee teams and the first Atlanta teams. They are distinguished by the creme color, solid navy trim, and lack of tomahawk. We switched jerseys in 1968 to a pinstripe look. For the next 2 decades we would play jersey musical chairs until we settled on our current look in 1987. This was based on the jersey most commonly associated with the Milwaukee teams. Navy-Red-Navy colored trim and a tomahawk underneath “Braves” or “Atlanta”. For the next 2 decades we would exclusively wear the white and greys until we introduced a red alternate in 2005 and then a navy alternate in 2008. In 2012, Braves brought back the cream jerseys as an alternate for home Saturdays and Sundays. The only difference from the original creams is they replaced the “Screaming Savage” sleeve logo with crossed tomahawks. They would be tweaked slightly in 2019 by adding sleeve trim to the jersey and demoting it to only home Sunday games. They never wore them in 2020 due to supply chain issues. They would be brought back in 2021, but this is the last year they would ever wear them. The new Nike jersey rules restricted teams to 4 jerseys + the city connect jersey. Braves had five jerseys and decided to cut the cream one.

If you’re wondering about when the Braves do and don’t use the tomahawk, in Atlanta, they never wore the tomahawk until 1987. Then it became a staple of the uniforms. Only a handful of alternates don’t use it.

    Hope this helps
