  1. Sometimes you get less than league average goaltending and the other team gets lucky goals. What can you do?

It’s almost frustrating to see these middling teams turn into beasts when they play us because they up the intensity just for this game.

You can see how big a game this was for the Islanders based on their effort and reactions to goals and such.

  2. Way she goes with back-to-back games sometimes.

Leafs losing 6-3 on an empty netter after winning that exact way yesterday.

  3. Not too enthused by that but not devastated either, 3rd game in 4 nights, you lose some but we have to start starting stronger.

  4. I know Leafs were on a b2b but damn they got no help other than Willy and McMann

    Move onto the next game

  5. Excuses: Tired, bad goaltending, no PPs, cold night, December, Christmas, no Matthews or Stolarz, Wind going in the wrong direction, the colour orange distracted them into thinking it was Morgan Rielly as a pylon again.

  6. 7 games in 12 days, 3 games in 4 days. No penalties against the worst PK in the league. Oh well.

  7. 6on5 and they don’t really get a shot through. Some looks but too much board play. Really see how they miss Matthews out there, leaves a big hole

  8. The islanders destroyed you on hockey night in Canada. Absolutely. Unequivocally destroyed you on Hockey night. In. Canada. In. Canada. Absolutely destroyed you. A bottom feeder team. That’s just unthinkable.

That’s what happens when your goaltender doesn’t bail you out.

Should have been a win. You have no choice, you have to win Monday now. Absolutely no choice.

  9. People will point to the standings, the back to back, no Matthews, and claim everything is fine.

I don’t know. None of the Leafs games the last few weeks have looked great, and that’s despite playing Buffalo a few times, Chicago, Anaheim.

  10. The whole getting badly outplayed by every team not called the Buffalo Sabres thing is getting pretty old.

  11. Tough loss for the boys, unfortunately goaltending couldn’t bail them out this game. Let’s hope they get some well needed rest & have a good showing on Monday!

  12. Classic off night for Leafs. Slow start yet again. Woll wasn’t his best. I have a good feeling for Monday. Leafs usually do well in afternoon games.

  13. McCabe played probably one of the worst games from a defenseman I’ve seen at any level of hockey. Just wanted to point that out.

  14. Shit happens. Zero penalty game is ultra rare. Good game to the Islanders. Back at it Monday afternoon

  15. Isles are our boogeyman. That’s five straight losses to them.

    Luckily, we’re Winnipeg’s boogeyman.

  16. Scheduled loss. Crumple it up, throw it away and move on to the next. The way she fuckin’ goes.

  17. In the saying nice things about people we don’t like column: I’m glad to see Anthony DuClair is doing well.

Edit: And by people I means teams … but I am really happy for Duclair

  18. I watched Canada versus Sweden tonight. Cowan looked really good again. The boy has a little bit of rat in him as well. Got a goal and a primary assist. Set up teammates three or four times for wonderful chances with superb passes as well.

  19. So yeah. Bad game. No notes. Just a bad performance from the team as a whole.

Do better next time. Leafs have looked shaky for a while. They’ve gotten away with it because they’re winning anyway. If losses begin to pile up, nip it in the bud as soon as possible.

  20. God these threads are always showcasing the worst of fans. Sky is falling, something is not right comments.

We are in 1st place in Atlantic. It’s 82 games. If some of you numbnuts watch Hockey you will understand there are ups and downs during the season. We are missing our captain, our top goalie, and aside from all of that, these games happen. Carry on. Monday a new game.

  21. Reaves was godawful tonight. Can’t handle the puck in his own zone. I can’t understand how he keeps getting in the lineup.

  22. Everyone just seemed disconnected. So many turnovers. And one of the worst games of the year from at least 4 of our 6 D. Gonna have games like that. On to the next one.

  23. Just finished watching on the PVR…

Is it just me, or was all of Timmins, Benoit, and Rielly terrible tonight? Tanev wasn’t great and Woll obviously wasn’t his usually excellent self either. I don’t know how the Isles got through that game with ZERO penalties to their name with the amount clutching and grabbing they were doing, especially towards the end of the game.

  24. People saying “we are getting outshot” clearly have no clue about systems and have little to no business talking about hockey.

This teams defensive structure is going to allow more shots and slightly more zone time. They are going to limit high danger chances and cross ice plays. They collapse in their own end and clog the middle.

  25. With keefe we would’ve lost to the sabres and had an overtime win tonight. We chief we got the less embarrassing 2/4 points. While we haven’t looked great this month I feel like this performance was the most understandable out of the past poor performances. U could see how dead tired they were.
