NJ Devils Jack Hughes & Jesper Bratt Broken Up | The End of Peanut Butter & Jelly?

The New Jersey Devils were back on the ice for practice today. The biggest news coming out of the day is that Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt have been split up for the time being.

Sheldon Keefe is looking to get a more balanced attack on offense and we will see some new line combinations for the matchup with the New York Rangers.

Is this the end of Peanut Butter and Jelly?!?

  1. I like these lines…I do not think there is any harm in moving these lines around. Yeah Bratt and Hughes have chemistry…but you never know…maybe moving the lines around can create some better chemistry….it's kinda like my cheese fondue recipe….I had an awesome recipe I have been making for a few years. Family loves it too. Well, I went to France in June, and loved what I had over there, and decided to tinker with my recipe, and came out with an even better recipe! Tried it out on my dad, and he agreed. Yeah it's completely different categories…but the principle is the same. lol But yeah, we gotta beat the Rags tomorrow…and Rempe is out of the line up!

  3. Instead of breaking up our top line and replacing wings, how about we replace the GM who has done such a crappy job at creating depth at the forward position?

  6. I think This is a mandate from Fitzy. He needs Keefe to find out what the ceiling is on this group. If Mercer has a hard time or Haula I can see those two involved in a trade to get something to push the group over the top. We can't keep getting shut out on nights the top six cannot solve a goalie. The timing of these changes is interesting and I think its a sink or swim for Haula & Mercer, we need more fron them for a deep run in the playoffs. Id move Palat but his cap hit won't allow this without significant resources attached meaning a casey or draft pick plus for something of equal or better value. This experiment is the info dump and opportunity to see what we can squeeze out of whats already here pre trade deadline.

  7. I have a feeling Jack/Bratt will be back together by the trade deadline. Once the Devils trade for a bona-fide goal scorer that can play on the third line, Keefe will go back to what he knows works.

  8. I think this move is temporary and meant to spread out the speed against the Rangers. The Rangers have real problems with the speedy lines of teams. Hughes always hurts the Rangers and moving Bratt to the Haula line forces the Rangers to play their best line against one, but they can't cover both.

  10. I saw this, and honestly am not concerned. My only concern is are the Devils winning? Keefe has brought us back into being a contender. Not every night is great, but he obviously keeps on these kids which is what they need, and have needed. Instead of sitting back, Keefe is doing what he can to make us the best team we can be. Rather address this now than in the playoffs. LGD!!! 🔥🔥🔥

  13. Interesting line combinations. Bratt is the kind of player who brings out the best in his teammates. Jack and Mercer should be a great combination, along with Cotter. I think it’s nice to see Keefe spread out the talent, because if you’re going to be successful, you gotta have contributions from all 4 lines. Let’s go Devils!!! Beat the Rag$! 😜

  14. Hoping Mercer turns it around, but not holding my breath. He has all of the physical qualities you want out of a top liner but his mental game is his #1 weakness. I'll be happy if he proves me wrong tomorrow!

  15. Nothing wrong with experimenting especially if it gets Cotter or Mercer going. Anything we get from Haula offensively i consider a bonus. Looking at those lines, they could also switch Cotter and Palat.

    Amanda has such nice handwriting.

  18. All for mixing up the lines but…Don’t like splitting up P&B. Rather you move Cotter up to their line, trade for Vatrano, and see about also getting Sturm or Bjugstad. Easier said than done I know

  20. This is an incorrect decision and will most definitely be reversed shortly. Bratt is the only person who thinks fast enough to keep up with Jack proficiently.

  21. Dude, my calendar has been marked for a long time for this game. I live in the Philippines so I have to get up at 2 AM to watch, I will have double alarms set just in case one fails. Let's go Devils!

  22. To be honest I would rather see Bratt and Cotter flip flopped. Bratt Hughes Mercer would be a dynamic line. Palat Haula Cotter would be a great grind it out shut down line. Just my opinion.

  26. That is a good thing for sure. They need to get more out the whole team. There is alot of potential. I have been notice that Haula, cotter and Tatar have been frustrated for long time. Mcdermid 7th D would be nice too. More icetime for him and more toughnes in front of the net. Hopefully they would give some time 3-4 games at least to see if this could work

  28. Its a good experiment…if it doesn't seem to pan out then they go back to tue original plan. No worries. It's a testament to Bratt that he's g8ven the task to take over the 3rd line and make them great.

  29. Also, I know Timo isn't putting it in the net as much as we'd like, but man…I absolutely love his game! He's unselfish, a bull, and always gives his best. He's extremely valuable to the makeup of this team.
