The Cincinnati Reds Next Best Move Is…

The Cincinnati Reds have not yet improved the outfield. Nick Krall has spent his time showing up the pitching staff by retaining Nick Martinez and adding Brady Singer and Bryan Shaw. He has answered teh question of depth at catcher by acquiring Jose Trevino. But the Reds still need at least one outfielder. Presumably, there is $18 million left to spend, so we will spend it the way the Reds should. We will also take your questions nd comments on this LIVE edition of the podcast!

  1. If you can move Pagan (say for a young MLB-ready CF with on-base potential or 3B ), you're looking at an available $26M. The only way I accept (grudgingly) of an offseason without a top flight OF addition would be something like Alec Bohm from the Phillies (maybe with Diaz from the Reds) and sign Austin Hays.

  2. "Hit a home run or strike out, it's just the way it is now." Yeah, and that's going to be a problem. One that I'm not sure the MLB can take the hit on. Ask the NBA how it's going with the current shoot a 3 or bust team offensive game plans and their ratings. It's a big issue for that league and they know it.

  3. Homeruns are overrated. Most guys are like Benson these days, homeruns and tons of strikeouts. Reds need guys on base. Guys that can do situational hitting. Smarter hitting.

  4. If the Reds don't upgrade the outfield, the offseason is an F. The goal isn't to save money, the goal is to win. You can't win if you don't fill your biggest hole, you go into the season with the aspirations of 3rd place. At least in 2022 they went into the season with an improved farm system as they tried to lose.
