people said they wanted kirk cousins back last year
look how that turned out
Sign him let jj learn like love did
I see the benefit of having him back I just don't want to pay him or any QB a huge contract. If he wants to win he could stay here for 25-30 million. If he wants 50 million he should go to a team that will do that for him.
A bird in the hand ………
Now we all can be quarterback whisperers! "hey, don't be garbage" π€£
Vikings are trying to gain advantage for trade, which could potentially be first and second round. However, it really depends on how far they go this year.
What benefit is it to the Vikings to insinuate anything other than they want him back
People still arent understanding we can just tag him for next year. Doesnt have to be a big contract. Would have basically no impact on signings which we can backload. This is not difficult to understand.
If we franchise tag Darnold and re-sign our own free agents we want to keep, that $72M is gone.
Go forward with McCarthy and Jones.
Sign him, keep Darnold, McCarthy and Jones. Dump Mullins. Just a thought
This just confirms the zero year window story. This team has too many "good" problems. Too much talent and great coaching for a Super Bowl window hereπ
Would not like facing Darnold the next 10 years if he ended up with SF or LA.
My calculus is will he stay on a team-friendly deal? Less than $30/YR and I'm all for it. If he doesn't want that, let him walk.
Donβt do another cousins or crazy contract. Ship him out and get 1 st round and 5 th round for him
Question, how do incentives work with the cap. Could they sign him to a 25mil and give 1.5mil per game incentive or would that still count against the cap?
Honestly, would it be a bad thing to give JJ the Rodger's "treatment" and let him sit another year to learn and develop as a qb, one that's able to practice at 100%?
Tagging is kind of a dirty move for the player and usually doesn't work out favorably. Vikings have only done it a few times. For all we know, Sammy's contract doesn't allow it. They're probably going to offer him a bridge deal and let him decide how much he wants to stay. Money isn't the issue. They're paying like $50MM at QB this year. It's just about how much they want to mortgage the future, and they're clearly still in "win now" mode, maybe a little by surprise. If it doesn't work out next year they could just take a step back, bench or trade Sam, and do a soft reboot with JJM. Personally I like Sam staying here for a bridge deal. JJM is very young and coming off an injury. I have no doubt he'll be the franchise QB in the long run. KOC is going to be here for the next decade, so they've got time.
Should signed darnold initially for 2 years 16 million with 10 million guarantee in 1st year.
Said the same thing with cousins. And obviously they would want him but on their terms
Iβm so tired of watching Garrett Bradbury being pushed in the qb lap man. This is a bad decision
You act like the decision is already made when it definitely isn't , if darnold loses first round in playoffs or plays terrible in the playoffs that will be a huge red flag for minnesota. hence the reason they have not offered anything they want a qb that can win the playoffs meaning the regular season doesn't mean nearly as much. the vikings want 1 thing a super bowl can't put darnold on any pedistal until he gets there.
Datnold already dated a bunch of teams. He's ready to settle down and raise a family with Minnesota.
Keep him
I have a feeling Darnold would have no problem taking 30 mil a year or so to stay here and not chase an extra 10 mil or more a year elsewhere. Can simply never have too many Qbs especially one playing this well for us.
Only KOC knows what he has in Darnold and JJ. It's refreshing to have a competent coach who can assess QB talents. I trust KOC will make the best decision. π
Could koc do the same thing with Daniel Jones?
Hard to say amounts quite yet but hes lookin to be 40 million. We will see post season. Skol Darnold!! Bring on the packers! Detroit were comin'!! Skol!!πππ¨π¨
I'm saddened at how quickly some fans want to throw McCarthy away. That money that would be used to re-sign Darnold for a multi-year deal, could bring in 2-3 ++ prospects which elevate the entire team. Those signings would also garner comp picks should we not be able to retain them. Let Darnold walk and two 20+ million players could be signed or three 15+ million dollar players. smh. I like Darnold, but I have no doubts JJ could develop the same chemistry with the weapons on this team.
A lot of Darnold's success (a non-quantifiable amount) HAS to be attributed to KoC, Jefferson, Addison, et al. And skillwise, JJ has better measurables.
Andy i herebut im just confused on the qb situation it's whatever to me just don't trade jj
I trust Kwesi and KOC to make the right decision on this one
If we can do it again… why not
Bring him back!!! We want Sam!
Even if they win a SB, you still don't, "give him all the money." Completely goes against the foundation of their strategy to be a great team.
It's like watching the same video every other day. Maybe every day.
10 million plus 50 million equals 60.
Divided by 2 is 30 million a year.
Interesting!
Give Darnold 4 years at $40 mil per year. He is a winner.
If youβre going to blow up the cap and sign Sam Darnold to franchise tag or a multi year deal, then recoup money via draft capital by shopping McCarthy for 2 number 1s β¦
1 year, 60m. 2 void years. Run it back
We can't get back in cap hell again.we need other pieces to better this team
WILD IDEA! Why not keep both Sammy and JJ AND play both in 2025. Imagine defenses having to gameplan for both not knowing what they are going to get. SKOL!
Let's settle down here a little bit. With 2 games still to go plus playoffs I'm not convinced yet. Just my .02
