Sean Should’ve Listened to his QB

  1. If he did and they failed the entire fan base would be trashing Sean right now.

Edit: to clarify, I agree with going for 2. But let’s be honest with ourselves, if they don’t get it he’s getting shit on today all the the same just for a different reason.

  2. Yup. You either get 2 yards for the win, or take a 50/50 chance to have the opportunity to go 40 yards for a potential win or 75 yards for a win. Go for 2.

  3. The play calling in the 4th quarter is driving me crazy. Dive up the middle followed by a screen for 3 straight drives. It’s absurd Sean doesn’t seem to see this. All of his receivers who are there to bail out also go a yard or 3 short of the first down marker. I understand being conservative but there is a point you have to play free and make things happen even if it doesn’t work sometimes. Just try. These last 2 games should have both been won but it’s hard to call the same plays over and over and expect to get away with it.

  4. Well. It’s always easy to say afterwards. If they fail to convert and lose by one, people will say why did they go for 2 instead of going to OT. If they go for one and win in OT people will say something different. Now they went for one and lost in OT. I get why they didn’t go for two. All you needed was a score or just get a tie which was very much possible. All they needed was pretty much just one first down to seal the deal which they couldn’t do, which is really terrible. It also didn’t help that the punter left his good leg at home. Pathetic punts in OT. Moss coming back from injury got absolutely destroyed all game long. He looked terrible. Overall, we should’ve been in the playoffs already. Just thinking about the end of the KC game still pisses me off…. Oh well. Now we need to win against a KC team which will most likely rest most of their starters, but have the refs on their side. Let’s see how that goes. All in all it’s a season that went much better than most of us expected. For the new season, we desperately need someone else to call the offensive plays, cause Sean Payton isn’t the answer

  5. I don’t understand why Sean Payton would let this go to OT. The Bengals were driving on us all night. Why not just put some faith in your rookie QB who was slinging it that last drive of regulation to make one play.

  6. It ended up being the right call to not go for two. We had two offensive possessions to just hold possession, didn’t even have to score.

And we had an open receiver down the field that Bo just missed. Would have been game. We couldn’t get a first…

Only real gripe I have with SP is the timeout uses in OT. We had no reason to save time there since a tie was a win.

  7. First punt by the bengals was in overtime. That defense needs some more pieces. Moss and McMillan were getting burned all day

  8. Maybe but do you guys realize we went to OT, they got the ball first, AND WE STOPPED THEM IMMEDIATELY. We had a chance to score 3 and win in OT. Lots of things could’ve gone differently. If we executed better on the plays called we probably win. We’re way ahead of schedule. Bo is a rookie and he’s having growing pains but he’s also balling. It sucks losing that way but we got one more chance to get into the playoffs next week where we control our own destiny. Next season is where we really are going to be put to the test and have to step up. Try to look at the positives from this game and see what we can keep growing on.

  9. He should’ve. But Bo also should’ve hit one of those open recievers in overtime.

  10. 2 point conversions are only at 33% success rates this year in the NFL. Last year it was 55%. I don’t know why there is such a big difference. But overtime is roughly a 50% chance to win. Plus, we got the ball in OT needing to make one first down o win and we failed. The chances of making one first down is much greater than the chances of converting a 2 point try. It was the right call. Just didn’t work out, and the D got torched.

  11. I agree, but both teams had multiple possessions in overtime. It’s not like we didn’t have opportunities to win the game.

  12. I saw this and thought we were going for it, but Sean changed his mind after the long replay review for the TD.

Should have went for it. It was a weird one for our defense, something like 7 sacks, 2 huge 4th down stops, yet couldn’t get off the field on 3rd down and no turnovers, and I’d take giving up only 24 points in regulation.

But also felt like we had no chance in OT because even with some great plays and stats, our defense really couldn’t stop Burrow, so playing for OT just seemed like a huge gamble. Then could have played for the tie at the end, but Sean’s clock management made me wonder why I even bothered watching this game. Complete trash.

  13. The game gave me great hope in Bo because that last drive in Q4 was great and had Manning/Elway vibes. OT was all SP and horrible time management and play calling, makes me really unsure of coaching. Hopefully we back into the playoffs and can fix these issues in the offseason

  14. Its thrilling to watch Bo play, see his growth and believe that he will lead us to great things in future. However, he isnrt at a level to put 2 pt conversion in his hand.

  15. I agreed not going for 2 because a tie gets you into the playoffs. After everything that happened for 67+ minutes, we had the ball with a chance to run the clock out with 2 1st downs and ran like 23 seconds off the clock. That’s where the game was lost.

  16. Hot take, but decisions that are only good or bad in hindsight I never get mad at. If they went for it and lost the game we’d be here yelling about how we only needed a tie and we should have gone to OT.

And we had so many opportunities in OT to tie it or to win. The real beef should be with the play calling and time management because there’s no scenario in which any of that was the correct choice. We prevented a TD on the first drive, exactly what sp wanted and his answer was to do absolutely nothing with it. That’s the real crime.

  17. I understand the loss was heartbreaking, but the statistics and probabilities heavily favor with just kicking the extra point… but, now unfortunately our season rests on beating the literal best team in the NFL. KMS 🤦

  18. And if they didn’t get 2 this sub would have just said “I would have rather gone to OT than call that play.”

  19. Not to mention FG’s have not been automatic this year, I was 100% onboard with going for 2.

  20. Going for 2 was the right plan. We were on the road and barely scraping by. We could have won it there

  21. Bettors who took Denver +3.5 where excruciatingly burned twice in this game. First it was the Broncos not going for 2 at the end of regulation (a bet win w/success or not), then the doinked short FG near the end of OT denying a Bengals win by 3 points.

  22. Sean definitely got in his head that we just need a tie to clinch so he felt better about going to OT. Ended up being a bad decision.

  23. Yep. They had the momentum. Bo was ready to strike. But alas another loss that shouldn’t have been. I put all the blame on Sean Payton. Vance Joseph has turned the defense into the beast it is today. The offense could be but is being held back
