Has O’Connell done enough to be Raiders’ starting QB next year?

As someone who doesn’t think he will ever be the guy and thinks his ceiling is a middle of the road Derek Carr season, yes. I’m 95٪ certain we’re going BPA 1st round, 2nd round QB, he still gives them the best chance to win, no matter how small I think that chance is.
no
Said another way: should we overpay for a free agent retread QB like Shew? No.
So, if QB doesn’t fall to us in 1st, then we go bpa, and pick up one in 2nd or 3rd.
AOC and that pick is the QB room.
Build elsewhere. We need upgrades at many positions.
I think AOC is a great bridge and backup QB. I think we take the best player available in the draft, like we did with Bowers, and don’t reach for anyone. Yes, we need a franchise QB, but we also need a lot of other pieces as well. I don’t want to have a Bryce or Caleb issue where we get a young franchise QB, but they have 0 weapons or are running for their life every play.
No
He was on pace to be better than Minshew. But quality backup or a stacked team where he only has to manage most of the time
I mean the team may have no other choice. If they started AOC with a rookie behind him, folks would probably be more OK with it. Personally from what I’ve seen Aidan is still spot starter/backup level QB. Hes def used his legs more in the past couple of games, but that needs to be consistently done.
Sure, if you want to keep losing. Might as well hire “lard cheeks” Brian Daboll as HC, between Aiden and Dabolls kindergarten schemes, we will easily get Arch Manning next year.
Not if AP is here. 😂
Yes. He’s the quintessential Mark Davis Raider QB.
If you can’t draft a quarterback because he played well enough to win games then he’s done enough.
Sure, if we don’t draft anyone in the first 2 rounds or sign anyone interesting in FA. But I really hope we find a way to upgrade at QB.
No. Sign Darnold. Watch Brock feast.
No. It’s most likely BPA in round one, and then QB to compete with AOC in round 2 or 3. I think the Raiders have had their share of FA retreads and are done trying to find a starter that way
The QB position takes the longest to develop and he’s just now past the 17 game mark.
Give him a full year to play before you make solidified conclusions.
There’s also the study that was done over 10 years, looking into rookie QBs and their success rates. They wanted to see what was better, latent talent or good situations. They decided what a good position was with three factors. Coaching, O Line, and RB and Receiving Core.
The study found that 2 or 3 negatives resulted in failure every time. The only QBs that were successful (meaning their contract was renewed) were those that were drafted to teams with 2 or 3 positives out of that criteria.
Aidan’s first season only had one positive. His second season…only one positive.
So essentially, people are expecting him to perform in a situation that nobody else has. Let that sink in for a second before you decide.
I’ve been reading a lot of these debate posts on drafting and I think that we get the best available in the first and get a backup in the later rounds. Plus there are legitimate character concerns about sheddeur and cam ward that would scare me off.
Not this again
Hell no
No. Please look at who’s quarterbacking and coaching in our division. That’s what we need to chase. As long as we are 4th at qb and 4th at coach, we aren’t winning anything. Were about to be swept by the division unless the chargers decide to rest starters
AOC is trash.
He has had 1 game where he’s been good against a good team.
1.
Beating bad teams doesn’t count for shit.
This QB hell ain’t gonna be over any time soon.
I really wish we could get Browning from the Bengals for a fair price.
It aint gonna happen though.
Odds are we get abused by the Chargers in week 18 so we could still land a pick in the top 6.
I’m not hopeful though. Out of the 10 teams that absolutely suck this year, we are currently the 8th best. Not great for draft position.
Cut minshew
He can take a hit that’s for sure.
Yes.
Can’t see us drafting a QB with the draft class this year being eternally subpar. Start AOC and build around him
Too early.
It’s like we were just here last season.
Honestly, no. But if we can’t get Ward or Shedeur then we don’t have a choice. I’m done w free agents and I doubt we’ll be able to get Darnold
This team has so many weaknesses at every level of the squad that the only option is BPA in the draft. Unless they have a crazy free agent frenzy and sign a whole new roster then a qb isn’t the only answer.
AOC will be the raiders starting QB next year. On the bright side, I don’t think we have seen him at his best yet.
If AP stays he should be QB 1 and get and off-season with Turner to see what he does
Lol. Absolutely not.
AOC put matters in his own hands. He said fuck drafting my replacement and won 2 straight
He’s got limitations, but he’s as good an option as overpaying for another washed-up veteran.
If our brand new rookie QB plays 80% like Aidan we will be over hyped with him
I wouldn’t say he’s done enough to be the starter. We just don’t have any other option but to let him start and have a rookie QB sit first few games. That would be better than signing a Free Agent QB at this point.
I don’t think it would be the worst thing in the world if we took best player available at whatever pick we get keep Aiden use the hundred plus million dollars in cap space and build a better team around him and if it doesn’t work out the next year‘s draft has better quarterback talent
The best option available *currently* for us next season imo is to just run it with AOC next year and get a proper coaching staff and pieces around for success in our division/the league, before we get our QB of the future. These QBs in this class aren’t good enough to mortgage anything for, debatable they’re worth a 1st round pick in another draft class, but id spend one if we had the option. Who knows, maybe AOC is that guy with a real system around him, i am not sold and i don’t want to get stuck in Derek Carr 2.0 territory with him so the leash is short in the sense that i need my socks blown off a couple times to be convinced in not actively getting better at the position each year he’s set to be the starter
No. Only winning meaningless games against horrific teams is not “enough”. Our OL and Weapons aren’t the worst in the league, yet he’s the worst starting QB in the league.
He lacks accuracy both downfield and intermediate, has spotty footwork and has no mobility.
Why the hell would we settle for this mediocre at best QB?
Just draft Gabriel
Did we sign Gardner for one or two years?
It’s an annoying question to have to ask because had the team personnel decisions been made more properly, we would already know a solid yes or no answer to this question.
