Fuck the haslams

*Haslams want to buy land downtown to build an arena district*
Gets rejected by city because it’d be privately owned and not on public land for the city
*Haslams years ago suggest shutting down Burke to buy that*
Gets rejected
*Haslams say we want to stay downtown but will build in a suburb if needed*
City says it’s a bluff
*Haslams release renderings of Brookpark site*
City offers Burke but by the time the legal processes are done it won’t be ready for another 15 years
*Haslams buy land to build stadium*
City sues them for not staying downtown on public owned property
And the sentiment is fuck the owner?
Trying to just understand what the situation is needed for the fuck the Haslams (regarding the stadium) to be happy (outside of screaming sell the team, like an actual solution)
Do you want the owners to pay for the upgrades on a building/land they pay to use?
Do you want them to pay for a new stadium on land that’s not theirs where while they’re making the largest financial commitment they aren’t the primary controllers of the revenue streams ie parking and accommodations?
I’m just trying to figure out what the other option(s) is/are
Pay for all of it or sell the team.
I understand the want for a dome I wouldn’t mind one myself. But I think we all question the location, the choice of burdening tax payers on something they never asked for or even voted for apparently, and the ownership doing this. It just feels like once the stadium moves it will no longer feel like the Browns. It will feel like an expansion team named the Browns. Plus if we lose Myles because of shitty operations, I wouldn’t even feel motivated to root for them.
What a coincidence! I’ve also executed Clause 2024-3-14 and taken the necessary steps with my bank to nullify any future spending on this team.
While work remains with the partner, this is a key step in my efforts to create a responsible solution to ensure none of my money or time is used in support of these clowns 🤡.
They did a great job on the new Crew stadium. It’s a fantastic place to watch soccer.
Translation: Their existing contract had a clause that self-executes on the first business day of 2025 if the Browns didn’t opt out. The Browns didn’t opt out.
Notice how they didn’t mention a purchase price or any money changing hands?
Looking forward to the Burke Lakefront expansion
If Haslam pays for it all he can move the team to Mansfield for all I care, if he wants public funding it needs to stay in or near downtown where he can’t monopolize revenue.
Hell yeah 💪
Translation: The existing contract had a self-executing clause to continue on the first business day of the new year unless the Browns opted out. The Browns didn’t opt out.
But notice how there’s still no purchase price or any word of money changing hands?
Wonder what deal he made with the city for that to happen.
Safe to say they’re not too worried about the City of Cleveland’s challenge huh?
A big middle finger to Bibb. Love it
At a minimum it means Cleveland will get a Super Bowl at least (Id assume since MN got one)
I don’t know why people act like this isn’t happening. As much as we wish we could have the stadium be downtown the Haslems have already decided it is happening. They are too wealthy and have too many politicians in their pockets to care what anyone else thinks. The funds from food, hotel stays, dining, parking, etc will now be funneled to their pockets. No more revenue sharing with businesses downtown. People saying they won’t get events… they will, because it will make them more money. The more events the more they pocket personally. The only good thing about this would be better transit from the airport to downtown allowing people to come in for an event and go downtown to visit the city and hopefully more flights out of Cleveland to better destinations.
Like anyone excepted anything else
If Jimmy wants to pay for it, go ahead.
You can dislike it all you want because you bathe in misery and hate, but this is the correct, forward thinking, move
Fuck these pieces of shit.
The (the Haslam’s) dream is to host a final four and a Super Bowl so they make more money from the property rights that they just purchased. It has nothing to do with “making a better fan experience” or “impacting the local economy.” Fuck them
Sounds good to me. State of the art facility. Use to care about a outside stadium for the competitive advantage but it better for the area. It will attract bowl games, concerts, conventions and maybe even a super bowl. I don’t like how he meddles but man he spends money.
Good. Let’s get it going.
So what if the taxpayers don’t approve?
Haslam sold the land to himself, great job. Then he will pay himself with taxpayer dollars if he can bribe enough popoliticiansiticans. yet, zero stadium funding agreements are done. Hope the city is successful in purchasing the franchise from this dirtbag,
As an outsider with no ties to the city of Cleveland other than the Browns (and genuinely liking the city having visited multiple times) I can see the argument for a new stadium from both sides.
However, what I appreciate about the current stadium is that it is downtown – giving it a unique experience before and after the game; an opportunity to experience what Cleveland has to offer outside of sports. There’s this true blue collar nature to an outdoor stadium downtown – I guess maybe it’s nostalgia for a storied franchise like the Browns, it’s an experience that people have done for nearly a hundred years. It feels like tradition, it feels historic and it feels authentic – not some bastardized corporate gathering that serves no one other than the billionaire.
I personally think it would be a shame to have the team move out of downtown and having taxpayers, both state and city, subsidize a development that wouldn’t have the same economic impact on the city that the current one does.
I was okay with not having a team. The playoff win percentage stays the same with or without a team.
Dome it up, Jim…
I’m about to.
Dome it up, Jim
Cause that’s what I was born to do.
I wish the city said to Jimmy “let’s play poker …. one division championship … one measly AFCN title and the land is yours….and for each playoff win you get more of what you want…. But for every loss below .500 you pay an extra 15% above value.”
They should be playing in the fucking parking lot with the way this year has gone
So this is a long winded way of saying they haven’t purchased the land yet but plan to in the future. Great. Everyone knew that already.
This owner has a knack for focusing on the wrong things or wrong people. How about figuring out how to build a quality team that wins consistently and can challenge for a title ?
“world class experience”
2-14 this year but man, these seats sure are comfy
