[Michael Ostrower] CBJ top prospect Cayden Lidstrom will not play this season

That’s, uh, somewhat concerning. Dude missed a big chunk of last season, came back for the WHL playoffs, then missed all of this season. Not ideal, to put it mildly.
I hope I’m proven wrong, and I’m not saying he isn’t going to be good or that I don’t like him, but I continue to really not like that we picked him. Cbj and luck with injured players have a really bad history
Why are people at The Hockey Writers such poor writers? Are they volunteers?
Much harder to develop when you’re not playing. Beyond concerning and annoying given Waddell’s constant comments echoing “we have to get this pick right”
I expected this after having back surgery. He needs to take his time, condition, and then he will be good. He’s expected to make a full recovery
Meh I’m not stressed yet, disappointing of course but this isn’t the end. Not going to get doom and gloom when he could still become great.
All we can do is be optimistic. Gonna hope he works hard and goes back to juniors next year and rips the league a new one.
I want to be optimistic. The problem is … i only WANT to be optimistic.
Oh man if only there were some people who saw this coming…
Hello Darkness my old friend.
Why the fuck did we pick someone who was injured. Hoping he can get better but damn what a gamble this one was
I’m gonna stay optimistic on this, I swear.
Said it then and I’ll say it again now. Stupid draft pick
I hated this pick when it happened and I hate that I’m feeling vindicated.
We could really use more size and grit down the middle. The back issues just keep getting worse though. Demidov seems really good and Lindstrom won’t play until almost 2026.
We should have picked Macklin Celebrini
/s
Damn. That’s not great.
I’m still not out on him yet but it’s definitely looking worrying.
Settle down boys. Settle down.
I would imagine Waddell and Co. knew this could be a possibility when they picked him
I do hope he goes the way of Eichel where he tears it up after he recovers. I know it’s not the same injury/surgery but it’s the best comparison we have
Unbelievable.. almost a fireable offense when you consider they passed on Demidov for a player that isn’t as good as Demidov , and didn’t have back issues
The question is, is he still having radiculopathy post surgery. If so this is a horrible sign for him and the organization. I do not know what the status is for him but this news suggest that something didn’t go well post surgery. For how young and fit he is, he should be a quick recovery from this surgery. I treat patients post spinal surgery every day. If there is one thing I have learned, it is spinal surgery is never a given success. And the worst part is if the first surgery does not go well then they almost always go back in and try to fuse the spine at the levels of the dysfunction. I hope I am wrong and this is just precautionary but I don’t have a good feeling about this.
FWIW that individual is not a CBJ writer they are a Blues / Isles writer. However, found these interesting.
[Mark Scheig: Wanted to address this by our Michael Ostrower. Lindstrom is still in Columbus and there is a chance he won’t play this season but nothing official on that front. Depends how his rehab goes. Recall Lindstrom recently had surgery so they are being very cautious.](https://x.com/mark_scheig/status/1876034177247899997?s=46)
Seems like we don’t really know. Only see the one individual saying for sure done.
Yeah, not really news. Young guy that has already had a major surgery, not playing this season as a rookie.
Was a head scratcher of a decision at the time, and this will not be the last major health issue. I’d love to be wrong here, but I really doubt I will be.

[Medicine Hat Reporter: That contradicts what I’ve been told as of very recent. So we’ll have to wait and see.](https://x.com/reportertubb/status/1876042439548715374?s=46&t=PL28nJdXdoGIWdpA4GPMRg)
