  1. adds more context than the top 100 list.

deep, plentiful options abound. depth is a great thing. Sky’s the limit.

  2. The caveat here: “if we’re just talking about guys who’ll play in the big leagues and be more than replacement level .”

That screams of a team that MIGHT peak at 85-90 wins for a couple of years. You know, before they break it down and start yet another rebuild.

  3. Not every prospect is going to make it, not every cant miss prospect will reach their ceiling, some prospects will come from nowhere and shine. I like that GMBC is building solid depth with good top tier prospects and lots of lower end high potential guys. We have had development success stories for initially lower level prospects under the new regime which bodes well (Ortiz, Burrows, Endy, Suwinski, etc). I’d rather have a system which has 61 rated prospects (per fangraphs) with 7 or 8 50 FV or above then having a system with ~40 rated prospects with 5-7 55 FV+ top tier players.

I really think BC is doing this rebuild the right way and he has really improved our development, analytics, international and domestic scouting. That along with us being a player centric organization and being open to new tech and ideas, we should see the fruits hopefully very soon!

  4. People seem to forget that our 2 prospects with the most star potential have already graduated. Hayes put up a 4+ WAR season already in his second full season, and Cruz arguably has the highest ceiling in the game. If those guys get close to their ceilings and we surround them with “above average major leaguers” they’re going to be good for quite a while.

  5. If its and buts were prospects and luck the Pirates would have a Merry World Series win.

  6. That’s literally what the conversation has been like for 10-15 years. “Are the Pirates on the come up?”
